The Blue Thunder is designed to detrtory light mechs and vehicles with its
massive auto-cannon rare among rotor craft.The two tons of ferro-fiborous
armour are somewhat light for a front line aircraft though the high speed that
tops out at 160 kph make it a difficult target Blue thunders usualy attack
either by popping up from behind cover or by making high speed runs darting
from one point of cover to the next yhe high speed and ability to fly over
terrain allow it to get behind enemy mechs where the class 20 auto-cannon can
punch through the rear armour of even an assault mech making a lance of these
working in concert a particulaly dangerous opponant

Blue Thunders are oftain paired with mech units where the mechs will hold the
enemy by the nose with a frontal attack while the choppers kick-em in the ass

The price.... The price! AC/20 assault units should certainly be cheaper than that, since they'll be taking losses. Think Hetzers and Saladins.
On the other hand, if you've got money to burn... they could do a lot of damage before becoming a burning wreck. Could be interesting to test them.
I think I'll stick to Yellow Jacket choppers, just to have longer range to the dangerous people.

Almost hate to say this, but with how thin the armor is on this thing my little Defender could probably take one down.
If the unit has to have thin armor, give it something with range so that it won't have to get close to the enemy. You've got a fusion engine; you could either do a PPC with 5 tons for something else, or an ER PPC with the five needed heat sinks.
But to be honest, the Yellow Jacket has this unit beat.

Unfourtionatly 30 tons is max for VTOLs I racked my brain trying to come up with a way to add armour with out losing the speed or the thump of the class 20 auto-cannon the only way I could think of would be to drop a ton of ammo and I am not sure about going into combat with only 5 rounds.

I advise dropping that ammo for a different engine. Standard fusion or even ICE if you can swing it. Then it's cheap and runs like a standard chopper. Strafe them a few times, retreat, reload, strafe. Repeat until victorious or dead, whichever occurs first.
Not a bad design overall though.

i agree. its got merit. but as it is, your not gonna last three rounds within enemy contact, because there gonna nail you craft first to be done with that ac/20.
this is a sherman tank with mini-nuke reactor. its gonna die, and die quick, and take a very prescious xl with it.
needs more armor, and a engine that can be lost. even if it had 10 tons of armor, it'll be ground bound with 1 ml to its rotor. [unless your using lvl3 rules.]

I think the Lvl 3 VTOL rules should become LVL 2 personally. I enjoy running VTOLs and with the LVL 3 Rules they can be nasty. Especially the Yellow Jacket. Get 4 of them and they can mess up a lance quickely.

Eventually it will be hit though, and almost any hit is death. And I would be targeting these with LB-10Xs immediately. A little flak anyone? This is my suggestion. Less armor, though, less cost, same pounding weaponry.
