OVERVIEW

Alecto was one of the three Greek Furies who hunted mortals that acted against the will of the Gods, punishing them for their transgressions. According to the legends, all three sisters could move like the wind, but Alecto was possessed of incredible stealth and hunting abilities to boot.

The Alecto is named for the Fury warrioress, and also possesses incredible speed and hunting capabilities. Its primary role is to move ahead of advancing forces, locating enemy positions and alerting its comrades. This does not mean, however, that the 'Mech cannot stand up for itself.

CAPABILITIES

Able to move at almost 130 kilometres per hour even without MASC engaged, and with an ECM suite to blur its sensor silhouette, the Alecto presents a challenging target. The few shots that do manage to strike the Alecto will likely be deflected by its five tons of Ferro-Fibrous armour plating. With its MASC engaged, few 'Mechs can keep up with it; fewer still can evade it.

When the Alecto has hunted down its prey, it has a wealth of options. It can designate it with TAG and call in an artillery strike, or it can move to engage with its laser battery. The five lasers the 'Mech carries can cause significant damage even to the most heavily armoured of opponents. Their ER capabilities allow the 'Mech to engage at ranges of over 300 metres with excellent results.

However, due to the 'Mech’s size, it has weak armour. Pilots of the Alecto are warned that they should keep on the move; their 'Mech’s speed will prove far greater protection than its armour.

DEPLOYMENT

So far, only one operational prototype exists, built around a heavily modified Mongoose chassis rather than a factory-built model.

Even so, the 'Mech has generated considerable interest; Dante Enterprises has on-sold the specifications and manufacturing rights for the 'Mech to Luthien Armour Works. The DCMS has ordered an initial manufacturing run of 4 Alectos, to be used in testing in conjunction with the Megaera and Tisophone.

The Greek-influenced Free Worlds League, notorious for its lack of dedicated scout 'Mechs (it uses the Capellan Raven or the unlikely Wraith to fulfill these duties) has also expressed interest in the design. If Dante Enterprises is successful in their negotiations with the FWLM, they will be able to immediately pay off a quarter of the debt owed to the Combine.

VARIANTS

The ALCT-02 Alecto is the only planned variant; this 'Mech will swap the centre-torso mounted ER Medium Laser for a C3 Slave, allowing it to work within a C3 network where its speed and EW capabilities can be used with even greater efficiency.

NOTABLE 'MECHS AND MECHWARRIORS

Graeme Southall has been testing the Alecto prototype. So far, the 'Mech has proven remarkably trouble-free, incidences in testing are more often attributable to the ageing 'Mech’s frame and targeting array than anything Graeme has done. Still, he has managed to rip one of the 'Mech’s legs of when he engaged the Alecto’s MASC; somehow, the leg rotational armour cuff wedged in between the hip actuator and the external armour plate, with results that can be imagined but not adequately described.

COST ANALYSIS

The ALCT-0 Alecto will cost approximately 4.3 million C-Bills to manufacture and ship. However, the Draconis Combine possesses almost no dedicated recon 'Mechs; the 'Mech’s only competitor is the ageing Owens, which despite the fact that it is an OmniMech displays none of the versatility of the Alecto. The C3-equipped model (ALCT-0 Alecto) will cost approximately 4.5 million. Both of these 'Mechs, however, are almost 25% cheaper than the Owens’ basic chassis.

MY BLURB

This is a bit of an experiment. Part of the Fury project born around the Megaera. The Fury Project consists of a Scout (Alecto), a line unit (Megaera) and the fire-support 'Mech (the Tisophone). Enjoy.

Primary Manufacturer: Skobel ‘MechWorks
Primary Factory: Vladivostock (Russia)
OVERVIEW

Megaera was one of the three legendary Greek Furies who punished Orestes. It is known, however, that Megaera was much more friendly towards humans (and human males) than either of her sisters, Alecto and Tisiphone. It is hoped that this BattleMech will display the same battlefield prowess and tenacity as the Furies of myth.

CAPABILITIES

Per your standing order the Megaera weighs in at under 55 tons; in this case, 50 tons. Again at your behest, its top speed is 84.6 kilometres per hour. It is also equipped with maximum armour coverage for its class, boasting 11 tons of armour. It is also capable of jumping up to 150 metres.

As you have not specified expected combat environment nor expected battlefield role, we have sought to equip the 'Mech with a variety of weapons, allowing the 'Mech to perform any role with ease.

Its primary weapon is the Blakenburg Technolgies ER Large Laser, allowing the BattleMech to engage targets up to 630 metres away. This weapon is backed up by a trio of each Medium Lasers and SRM-2s. The SRM-2s are equipped with two tons of ammunition, allowing the pilot to load NARC-homing ammunition or Inferno rockets at their choice.
VARIANTS

We are prepared to supply the following variants at your request:

MEG-X2: By removing the SRM-2 packs, plus a small amount of rear armour, we can replace the ER Large Laser with the more powerful Kinslaughter H-Class ER PPC. A pair of Small Lasers for antipersonnel operations will be added to the torso superstructure. By adding another two Heat Sinks, the BattleMech can use the bulk of its weaponry without concerns for heat. This is an excellent vehicle for skirmisher units or units which receive only limited resupply runs, as it requires no ammunition.

MEG-X3: Intended as a command model, the MEG-X3 is equipped with an ECM Suite, Active Probe, and TAG designator. Its weapons load is somewhat diminished; the MEG-X3 carries only three Medium Lasers, plus the ER Large Laser of the standard model. However, this variant is equipped with enough heat sinks to be able to fire all of its weapons and jumping whilst building up only marginal heat.

DEPLOYMENT

We can retool our Vladivostock production lines and commence production of the Megaera within a month. Following that, we should be able to build 4 Megaeras per month.

COST ANALYSIS

At your request, we used only limited high-technology equipment on the Megaera. The standard model is only 4,856,000 Star League Credits to produce, well beneath the budget of 5,148,429 Star League Credits we were given. The MEG-X2 will only cost 4,864,250 credits; even the most expensive in the series will cost just 5,295,500 credits-only slightly above the budget even though it is equipped with an admirable array of EW equipment.

BATTLE VALUES

MEG-X: 1,297
MEG-X2: 1,418
MEG-X3: 1,469

HISTORICAL NOTE

Despite its impressive bid for the contract, Skobel MechWorks failed in it attempt to win the contract, which was eventually awarded to Blue Shot’s Starslayer.

MY BLURB

A long while ago, Karagin ran a design competition on Sarna to build a Mediium 'Mech that cost no mre than ½ that of the 3050 Shadow Hawk and was capable of filling the role of the new SLDF’s standard workhorse Medium 'Mech. This was my response. It went fairly well in the trials, but eventually bowed during the dueling matches that were to sort out the top tier. Unfortunately, the Megaera’s very versatility was what crippled it when the 'Mech was put up against a dedicated brawler.

A pox on all random draws!

It should be noted that I am a bit of an Inferno junkie, which is why the SRMs have so much ammo. Perhaps you might like to put another Medium Laser or 2 Small Lasers on instead of the second ton of ammo.

OVERVIEW

According to Greek legends, Tisophone was incredibly skilled with the bow. Although she preferred to use whips on her cowering foes, Tisophone is reputed to have almost defeated Apollo in an archery contest. To reflect the legendary warrioress’ skills, the Tisophone has been armed with a number of powerful ranged weapons.

The final 'Mech in the Fury Project, the Tisophone is intended to serve as the back-up unit. Massing an incredible 100 tons and equipped with the largest and most powerful weapons systems the Combine can produce, the Tisophone is certain to menace its opponents.

CAPABILITIES

Armed with a massive Shigunga 'Mech Series Arrow IV artillery launcher, the Tisophone can engage targets at ranges exceeding three kilometres, using targeting data provided by an Alecto or a hidden Kage squad. This barrage can destroy the heaviest of opponents with one strike, and at such ranges a counter-assault is often impossible. Equipped with enough ammunition for 20 strikes, the Tisophone should be more than able to supply artillery throughout a standard engagement.

When the battle moves closer, the Tisophone can continue the barrage with its other long-range weapons; a Shigunga LRM-15 equipped with Artemis IV, and an Extended-Range Particle Cannon. Foes expecting the 'Mech to be defenceless up close will be surprised to learn that it carries four small back-up lasers; a pair each of ER Medium and Small Lasers.

Thanks to the lessons learnt on the O-Bakemono (Ghost or Great Goblin, depending on which translation you prefer), designers did not include an Extra-Light engine, opting for lower speed and survivability instead. The CASE panels mounted in the 'Mech’s side torsos will protect it in the event of an ammunition detonation.

DEPLOYMENT

Draconis units will be able to choose between the O-Bakemono and the Tisophone for mobile 'Mech artillery. The O-Bakemono is expected to hold the initial edge because of its more Japanese origins and the fact that it carries two artillery missile launchers, but we expect that eventually Draconis units will see the advantages of the Tisophone and gradually accept the design.

Since the FWLM has relied on retrofitted Anvils to provide artillery support in recent years, the Free Worlds League has expressed an interest in the design-particularly the TIS-OP2 variant (see below).

VARIANTS

The only planned variants are the TIS-OP2, which carries dual Arrow launchers, a trio of ER Medium Laser, and a quad-pack of ER Small Lasers, and the TIS-OP3, which carries four Artemis-equipped LRM-15s, a pair of ER Medium Lasers, and a single Medium Pulse Laser.

For obvious reasons, these can only be constructed at a factory, and not conducted as a field refit.

In all cases, one Medium Laser can be exchanged for a C3 Slave. Because of the 'Mech’s armament, mounting a Command Computer was deemed counterproductive; the applications of C3 on a fire-support unit are limited due to targeting interface difficulties.

NOTABLE 'MECHS AND MECHWARRIORS

Graeme Southall, Dante Enterprises’ long-suffering test pilot has been testing the Tisophone. Aside from a tendency to fall over when firing the Artillery cannon, the Tisophone has presented surprisingly few technical difficulties. The balance problem will be rectified by installing larger, recoil-compensating leg actuators in production models.

COST ANALYSIS

A TIS-OP will cost approximately 11 million to produce and ship-by comparison, the O-Bakemono costs well over 18 million. A TIS-OP2 costs a comparable amount; the TIS-OP3, however, is considerably more expensive and will cost almost 12.5 million.

MY BLURB

I have grave concerns about the O-Bakemono. XL engines and Arrow IV is not a good mix, particularly when one considers the relatively weak armour of said 'Mech. Although the Tisophone is slower, it has almost double the armour, does not have an XL Engine, and-best of all-features CASE. Enjoy.
