I have a small group of players that, for reasons to complex to go into here, have gotten themselves into a mess.
Basically, they are fighting a large group of Inner Sphere mercs for control of a rock somewhere in the Periphery. They broke off from their respective clans to form their own little society...
So, I have decided to throw some heavy stuff at them. They will first be encountering a small patrol, and then an assualt on the merc base itself.
I need roughly three IS lances, circa 3057, to go up against these guys (and gal).
The first is the patrol, and the other two are the base gaurd.
For the patrol I am thinking somwhere between 12-13,000BV.
For the base gaurd, somewhere between 21-23,000BV.
In addition to the base gaurd, there are 3 turrets with an AC-5 and two Streak SRM2's. They also have two Mantis Light Attack VTOL and a Scorpion (SRM Variant).
The Clanners are all Veteran who pilot:
Supernova
Stormcrow(PRIME)
Hunchback IIC
Summoner(D)
Summoner(D)
In addition to their own mechs, they were able to convince some other Clan folks that leaving would be a good idea.
In terms of combat forces, they are still limited. But they do have the following:
3xElemental-MG Squads (Regular)
2xSalamander Squads (Regular)
1xVandal(C) (Regular)
2xAres Medium Tank (Green)
They also have the following. However, none of these have crew/pilots:
1xWolfhound IIC
1xMist Lynx(A)
1xViper(C)

No real input here, but damn! That is a tough star! The Supernova suffers a bit from heat problems, the Hunchback is a one-shot-wonder. But the Stormcrow is one of the meanest mediums around, and the PRIME variant is the most efficient. And what can I say? There are not one but two of the deadliest variant of my favourite 'mech in it! They are mobile enough to stay at extreme ranges, and accurate enough to deal at least 20 damage while doing so! As I said, an impressive star.... _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Fill the field with hidden rifle infantry?

Or command detonated minefields, or flood the battlefield and have them fight in a swamp--or better yet a huge lake, or a freak snowstorm, or fog...lots of goofy things you can do and most players will be confused as the normal tactics don't work.

I like the suggestions so far ... even though no actual forces have been recommended.
I actually hadn't considered the mines. It would make sense though...

A variant on both.
Hows abouts stumbling on some Pattons and/or Rommels ( maybe even throw a Burke or Von lukcner in for S & G's) Clanners have traditionaly had some tough times with tanks. ( using hidden units) from what I remember( Just got up and read these) the Star mentioned is shy on Elint. and that could be there undoing...( even further on in this skit)

I know its a little heavier than normal but you said be nasty. The Hunter Lance is my personal favorite as all of them move the same speed and jump and they are all fast enough to be a headache. And I personally HATE Grasshoppers my friend used one to destroy several mechs I have used against him. the bugger is hard to hit and can tack a beating. and dish it out as well.

I was about to say the same about the Grasshopper. There has got to be a better mech that can do this job..... I'd use a StarSlayer. It's more flexible and more reliable. Hell, a Urbie would be better that the Grasshopper....
Right Chihawk......

LOL! Actually I have the utmost respect for the Grasshopper. The buggers have killed me plenty of times..

As do I. I really love the newest configuration of the Grasshopper. I think it is a far more effective Heavy BattleMech because of it too.

add in a few mice and you might have something.
they home on heat signature, move 3/5 and carry a proximity mine worth 20 points.
I would be able to build one of those today out of a self propelled lawnmower and some basic servos wired into a Ir/ mag detector hooked up to a "brain" chip.

How about Pairs...
Atlas's
Awesome's
Penetrator's
Thunder's
Wolverines
StarSlayers
Specter's
and
Wraith's
With a little Terrain and Prep you can make the Clan have a bad day....

Here's one:
Make the battle at the main base take place at a time when it is abnormally hot. This will make life difficult for that heat-intensive Supernova and possibly for the Hunchback IIC as well.
IIRC, blizzards actually help mechs run cooler so the Supernova might do better in that condition.
