==Overview:==
Still suffering a shortage on military machinery, the DCMS has made the
decision to help fill the gaps temporarily with conventional vehicles. This
unit represents one of the first new vehicles to come from the project.

The Dragonfly boasts as its armament twin LRM 5s, twin MRM 10s, and a machine
gun. The missile launchers are mounted in the unit's wings, and each launcher
boasts is own ton of ammo allowing the Dragonfly to stay in the field for a
longer period of time.

The LRMs give the unit token long-range firepower, enough to harrass targets.
The MRM 10s, while inaccurate, provide cheap close-in punch. The machine gun
allows the vehicle to deal with infantry.

Granted, the Dragonfly is a little slow for a VTOL, but it is hoped that the
weapons load will help make up for that.

==Variants:==
Apparently taking a cue from Quickscell's Defender, the Dragonfly's wings are
designed to allow for easy load-out changes. Taking another cue, one
factory-suggested variant suggests replacing the wing-mounted missiles for a
pair of AC/2s with a ton of ammo for each.

The low speed coupled with its weak armour make for a vulnerable machine ,and the twin MRM 10 do not add that much throw weight swap the engine for a fusion and mount and replace the MRMs with two ER medium lasers and more two LRM 5s and ONE more ton of ammo and more armour FF if possable it will cost a little more but you would get a lot more bang for your buck.More speed, more armour ,more firepower

Well, He did say temporarily fill the gaps.

I would have to agree with Motown. A V.T.O.L. does depend on speed more than armor to survive. It's a good attempt. Keep trying.

Take it from the masters of vehicle use (Clan Hell's Horses) speed equals survivability. after all, Have you ever seen a slow Eponia????

When I say temporary fill I mean "As soon as mech production picks up this unit is being re-assigned to either an urban garrison or a posting on a backwater."

So That does not mean that you still cannot make it an effective machine espaicaly if it will be reassigned to a place where it will be the primary defence

7/11 is speed enough under basic rules, and MRMs are good for killing prone or immobile targets. Nothing wrong with the design, as long as you don't send it on a frontal assault against any serious opposition. Use it as support for the heavier stuff. Swooping in to shoot at exposed backsides is what VTOLs are made for.

You are making a mistake that is common with level 2 players that you only need enogh speed to get that +4 to hit that is not the only reason.or even the main one you want to be able to position your self so the enemy cannot get a valid LOS the more speed you have the more terretory you can cover with a 7-11 move there is a very good chance that you could be sitting out in the open a perfect target for LRMs something with a move in the 10-15 to 13-20 range has a much better chance to make it to the rear or to cover .Any to hit penaltys are pure gravy I they cannot get LOS to hit rolls are irrelevent.

And what good is it if you don't have LOS?

Remember, if you make it so the enemy can't see you then you can't see the enemy...so why bother?

When you have a fragile craft like a VTOL you want to be in the most advantagous position meaning you stay under cover until you get that optimal shot. If you look at how NATO uses its tank busting Helicopters they hide behind cover until they can get that optimal shot then they pop up and fire .That is the same tactic to use in BT wait till you can get that back shot then BANG!

The difference is those tank busters can kill their target in one salvo...a VTOL can't do that in Battletech.

No I was using the VTOLS speed and cover to be fair I had a lance of VTOLs and the other three were lost before I got the back shot as they could not find cover.

Trust me, if you tried that tactic 100 times against a good player you'd have 4 dead VTOLs 99 times...and the one time you'd be successful would be due to bad die rolls...

The trick is using VTOLs in support of something else, something that makes for a more tempting target. I often use fast hover tanks to support my mechs, using VTOLs instead wouldn't be too hard. The question shouldn't be which helo to shoot down. Your enemy should be asking himself if he can spare any unit for shooting at copters when there's a Steiner assault lance lumbering toward him
