								| And you think that's really helpful?
Well, actually, I guess it is helpful...it shows me what not to say.

								| I know it is hard to speak in front of lots of half drunk people you know, I will tell you my secret, plan nothing. and when the time comes, say what is on your mind and in your heart. that way no matter what comes out your mouth at least it will be honest. ( just keep from drinking before hand and don't puke on the bride, kinds spoils the honeymoon. Puking on the Groom is allowed.)

								| You can always tell a short humorous/embarassing/sappy story involving your friend that is somehow related to the kind of person he is now. Tell the new bride that you are warning her about the kind of man that she just married before you tell the story. End with one of those wispy eyed sentimetal thoughts based on your friendship.
In all events, keep it mostly short and sweet and lighthearted.

I can't offer anything more without knowing specifics. It will have to depend on the personalities of the bride and groom, the extent of your relationship with them, and what level of decorum is expected when the toast will be made.

								| I'll only know a small handful of people in the room I know and most won't be drunk...yet.
My problem is that when they hand me the mike I'm worried I might automatically begin my obscenity-laden stand-up routine, which might not be good to do in an Elks lodge.

								| I agree. its very important to keep it short and sweet, but also don't be afraid to throw in some emotional stuff as well. Its a wedding after all, and the bride will then love you and you can keep going over for football and beer.

								| Well, I was my bro's best man,and at his wedding I gave the classic Irish toast:
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields.
 And, until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand

His Phillipino In-laws seemed to like it, and the Irish Catholic Priest who wed them gave me a big thumbs up!

I didn't. It was a traditional wedding and I made a traditional toast...
