Interesting thought bounced into my brain today. ( it will be on the CNN special report all month thats how rare this is.) I was thinking about this here game and formulated a few 'unique' Ideas,

1: Mechs size/ton doesn't matter. Tatics rule any and all battlefeilds and It really doesn't matter what equipment anyone has or how much they have. It ONLY matters what they do with what they have that will make you the winner every time.( Belive it or not that was NOT refering to any bedroom antics so turn your brains back to the -ON- position)

2: Those who can deliver guns, people, water, ammo, mail, spares, food, doctors, pencils, batteries, ect... to the front ( its called 'logistics' for those unfamiliar to the subject ) will 99% of the time win. ( Assumning he isn't a 'Stalin" and kills all his good tactitions.) Example Rommel was the one of the best the Germans had but he got beat by 'Monty" ( GRRRRrrrr!) 'cuz 'Monty' could deliver supplies to his boys and Erwin could not. Simple and historicialy accurate.

3: NEVER understimate the 'God' factor in REAL combat ( something no game I have ever heard of or played has ever been able to acturatley factor into it's self.) religions have caused more war and destruction over history than anything else. more murder, more "crimes against humanity" more heart ache, torture ,bloodshead, and general grief than anything. HOWEVER they have also been the most dominating factor in keeping people from succumbing into thier own feeble ego's and helping "Humankind" rise above what they thought they could do and achive things that no one ever thought possiable.. a good example of that is Isreal. and the 'Seven days war' any odds maker in history would have thought the jewish nation doomed. 30 + countries were in on that, and look at the results. ( validates both good and bad points I made above.) and as anyone will tell you the IAF does NOT play games period. It's no wonder that even the old Soviet Union was frightened of what they would do IF provoked. Remember Isreal's motto, in German it means " Never Again "

Those three things if used properly in comabt ( and game play ) will make you the winner over anyone or anything. ( asumning you can do it better than your foe. If your not doing it,know you are going to lose.)

And just a quick side note: Women have brains and are just as ( if not more so ) devious than boys.....

I must be doing it wrong.

I always looked at the game as an excersize in quick mathematics, with just a bit of randomness thrown in to even it out for those folks who couldn't add.

For example, If I can jump 3 hexes, is it worth the jump?

Answer depends on the situation. A jump costs you 3 on everything you shoot, and you only get a 2 modifier on everything she shoots. So if you can jump into heavy woods, you are better off, if you can jump into medium woods you break even, and if you can change his weapon range to the worse without messing yours up, you also win.

Too many people just don't look at the numbers during a battle. For example, if you can get partial cover, do you take it? Yet again it deoends. Partial cover when your opponent needs less than a 8 is a deathwish, even a 9 is cutting it close, but if you can get the mods to a 10 or 11 then you have the advantage. He will only hit you 1 out of 6 shots, then 1 out of 6 of those will hit you in the head.. Fairly safe.

I agree with your spirit, not your words.

Apart from a lucky shot, a Wasp will not defeat a Direwolf.
Even with a 0/0 pilot vs. a 6/7 pilot, the Direwolf will sooner or later connect with it's pulse lasers.

Size, numbers and tech do matter. It's just that tactics is the biggest factor in the equation. But even tactics can be nullified with enough numbers, tech and size.

Only if the conflict lasts long enough for logistics to become an issue.

You don't play with dice very often, do you?

That's why co-ed sports are a bad idea. It will hurt our fragile male ego far too much to get flattened by female guile. Constantly. =)

Just when my ego's making me forget that, you have to remind me.

Chihawk, Vagabond, could you put that BOFH in the Ban box for a week or so for -ponder-aggrevated mental harrassment?

The difference in the Sag vs Locust situation is that the Locust actually outclassed the Sag. It outranged it, and completely outmaneuvered it.

It also got a few lucky shots in.

The Wasp would need a Through Armor crit or two or three to have a shot at taking out the Direwolf.

But enough talk. You take that Wasp, I'll take the Direwolf, and we'll notify the board about your defeat later.

Well, seems like all things once started it takes on a life of its own, so I will give my twin cents worth and see what happens .

Tatics: with due respect to those with a historical bent most of the things mentioned were/are tatics, from the magi employed by the brits at/before el Monty to Patton knitting socks in england before normandy and tieing up some germans waiting for him. The point it HOW you do something is as important in war as it is in life. We all use various Tatics from wakie time to bedie bye time interacting with everyone we see/meet. Humans are a breed that seeks advantage over his/her enviroment, inteligence, fellow creatures and of course each other. That is most easily noticed though when we fight against each other, we probe, stab, check, ect.. to overcome our foe. we are ( obiviously ) trying to 'win' the 'game' and the ideas used are the tatics employed. ( will stop there for now.)

Logistics: Along with Ideas these are the real world 'toys" we use to do what we wish. The tools that we employ to do everything from eating, to fighting. but tools get lost / broken / captured / ect. so they must be replaced. ( EVERYONE knows soldiers are 'tools' also including those same soldiers. I know I did.) The ability to move these 'tools' where they can be used and as replacements for the 'broken' ones is proably the most important thing on any battlefeild. Tis true tech. is an equilizer, yet the higher the tech. the easier it is to break it.

"God Factor" The Isreali reference was just that a reference. religion has killed more that Mao, Hitler and Stalin combined ( Note Nazism and Communisim were / are in effect religions and very very jelouse ones too. as are all the rest.... but that is not a Battletech subject,) but that is beside the point. People by nature wish to hold dominance over others and seek justification for that 'nature' in being blessed by what ever god they worship. and in so doing are able to find that extra "boost" that gets / keeps them going through the worst of times. THAT is what has not been found in any game I have played becouse it can not be put into a die roll. The closet I have seen was a game called "Squad Leader" I played a decade or so ago. when you could "break" people and make them ineffective ( could also "berzerk' them too) but nothing comes close to the motivating factor of religion. It could be the stamping out of anothers belifes or as a shield on a persons sanity / soul / ego while achiving somthing not thought possiable

Now its time for a shower and I will wash a specific spot on the back of my front so either the boot has a clean spot to kick, or I can re-sit on it and respond once again. Till then....

Try to stay on subject kids..........
