Has anyone considered converting MechWarrior into D20 Modern? I thought that would make for an interesting project. Just curious.

you could do it without much conversion. only major thing would be makin some energy weapons.

I've actually considered modifying Star Wars d20 into Mechwarrior: remove the Force related stuff, Wookies become Elementals, Duros become Clan Pilots, and a few other tweaks, and viola! Mechwarrior d20!

Yeah Vagabond was saying it would be easier. But all I have are the Modern Rules. I just got into a game (today is the first one!!!) which will take place in Boston, 1890s. I'm going to play a master criminal. muhahahahahaha but he's a criminal for a reason.

A criminal is still a criminal, no matter how good the reason.

True, but i'm basing him off of the sort of tough shell doesn't give a damn platform, and he does some bad stuff: steals priceless museum pieces; robs banks with a rare style; etc
But he never has murdered anyone. This is cause underneath his exterior is an actual fairly normal human being, just one who is very very pissed off. He blaims society for disease, poverty, etc and has decided to get revenge. But as a capitlist, he also plans to profit. Imagine the bad guy from Clue, but not as humerous.

I'm sorry, but as a criminologists that makes obsolutely no realistic sense at all. It sounds good as a story, so have fun with it (or at least as much as I can recommend anyone having fun pretending to be a criminal, that is). The whole "turns to lucrative crime because they are pissed off at society", at least in the way you suggest, is more fiction than fact.
As far as converting d20 Modern for Battletech, good luck. I bought d20 Modern thinking I could do that easily and I got a headache tryinng to figure out a way to do so in a balanced fashion without basically making a new d20 game. Besides, I like the whole Hit Point/Vitality point system in d20 Star Wars better than the straight up hit point system in d20 Modern. It makes for a grittier game, which is what Battletech ha always seemed to be to me. If you want weapons, Green Ronin has a huge manual of modern weapons for d20 Modern that can probably work just as well with d20 Star Wars (revised) that has been tweaked into Battletech d20.

A friend of mine considered moving Mechwarrior to d20 and even approached Wizkids on it.
Wizkids replied with something like a policy of not accepting solicited work. So he was shutdown. We have started a conversion of our own many months ago, but did not get very far.
This same friend wants to convert CBT to d20 and I keep staying no. That borders on blasphemy and I will not allow it. Besides, so much of CBT is based on the distribution of a 2d6.

I think CBT and d20 can be blended fairly well. It wouldn't be perfect by any means, but I kicked around some ideas that I think preserved almost everything that makes CBT CBT yet still allowed it to mesh with d20. Not perfectly mindyou, but I think they can be made to mesh with a bit of work.

I have to disagree. CBT cannot and should not be converted to d20. IT would be way to complicated, and would take too much getting used to, and those of us who have been playing CBT for a while would probably rebel for the most part. MEchwarrioron the other hand would convert really well. I think using d20 Star Wars as a place to start would be a good idea, as suggested above, maybe using a little bit from d20 Modern, and creating a little bit to fill in the holes. I was never a huge fan of the MEchwarrior system, and MechWariror 3rd Edition is way to complicated. I can appreaciate what they were trying to do, but they made it so complicated that I couldn't muster up enough patience to sit down and bull my way through creating a single Character.

MechWarrior d20 would be an interesting thing... but over all, limited.
MechWarrior 2nd Edition runs on a 2d6 method that works out extremely well for what it was designed for.
My take on the Matter is to convert it over to either d10 base, or Palladium Megaversal system... those give it much more flexibility, than is currently in use.
As for why MechWarrior 2nd Edition Uses 2d6 method; it was designed to be an integratable update to CLASSIC BATTLETECH miniature combat. to allow "real role-play" of an already interesting futuristic war-game.
