I like this rule a lot myself, but I put the AC/2 up to 4 pts. of damage rather than 3. An AC/4 is very good for wearing down those pesky lights, especially in 3025 when they all have only 4 or 5 points of armor on most locations.

anti-aircraft fire is of course one of the weakest areas of battletech rules, but for the record I really prefer SRMs for anti-aircraft; with fighters you're more likely to bring them down with critical or control surface hits anyway as long as you're in the atmosphere, so i'm more concerned with the number of location rolls I get rather than the amount of armor I chip off; I prefer to let a high-speed collision between the fighter and the ground do that part of the job for me. Cluster rounds and LRMs are a close second for AA work, for the same reasons. This theory holds true in fighting vehicles as well; critical hits are so easy to get against them that it's better to gun for the criticals than for armor penetration...becides, you get more salvage if you just kill the crew.

How many shots per ton do you give this AC 2\4?

I always gave it the standard 45, so it doesn't run out of ammo very quickly. Remember, the AC/7 is still carrying 20 per ton, so you need to keep continuity.

not a bad idea; did you ever actually try this out. I havn't played too much aerotech, but I usually find that ranges can change very quickly in that game, so you might have trouble actually keeping out of that Dropship's arc of fire, especially if it also has some escorts that you have to avoid.
