...without spending thousands of dollars?
Hi all,
Well, let me explain my sit-rep. I never really got into the BT card game when it was first published, mostly b/c at the time I was collecting Magic: the Gathering cards, and one CCG collection was expensive enough
However, I have been doing this social service thingy called "Big Brothers" where a "grown-up" (I use the term loosely) like me gets paired up with a little kid, and basically you just be their friend. I'm ALWAYS trying to figure out things to do with Joseph (my "little brother').
--trust me, this WILL go somewhere relevant--
So.....Joseph (like most 11-year olds) loves CCGs, but his parents just went religious BIG TIME, and have decided that anything related to magic or withcraft is off-limits. So, bye-bye Yu Gi Yo. I was massively bummed b/c I was thinking of either getting into Yu Gi Yo or getting Joseph into M:tG. I was sitting around telling my wife about the whole "NO WITCHCRAFT" rule, and she said, "hey, isn't there a Battletech CCG?".
So, what do you think? Is it possible for me to put together a reasonable, playable collection for maybe 100-200 US$? If so, where would you recommend? Do any of you have extra common and uncommons that you would be interested in selling? I'm probably not going to go into this whole-hog, and so I wouldn't need all the double-secret rares... Thanks!

Sure, it's fairly inexpensive. And I've got a TON of cards you can have. Common, Uncommon and Rare for free. Well, not really free because you did paint all those minis for me. (speaking of which, almost done with the 4 you got? )
If you want to get together some time, let me know. I can bring 'em all over and you can take what you'd like. Build some decks, maybe play test 'em. Stuff like that. Call me.

Thanks Mordel!
Actually (I've been under a rock for a while, so I probably never told ya) I am now geographically mobile. The wife and I finally caved and purchased a car! So, another possibility is that I could swing out to your neck of the woods. Thanks again!

Considering I haven't talked to you in what has probably been close to a year, I definitely wouldn't have known that! Glad you bought a car, hope you have a spot to park it?
Let me know when you wanna come up. We'll look through what I've got and give you as much as you'd like. You'll see you won't need all of them since I've got a tad bit.

Electricity is cool but running water is over rated.

| There are other SF related TCG's which are not related to magic or witchcraft too
If Joseph parents wont like BT TCG, as it basically is a war simulation, you should try the Star Trek card game.
Other alternatives are the WingCommander CG released 1995 by Mag Force 7, SimCity released 1995 by Mayfair Games, The X-Files CCG released 1996 by USPC Games, Netrunner released 1996 by Wizards of the Coast, Illuminati: New World Order released 1994 by Steve Jackson Games, ...
I intentionly left out the Star Wars & Young Jedi games as "The Force" might be seen as witchcraft by sensible parents
Beside Netrunner which has much less cards and expansions, i think Star Trek would be the best selection for such problematic parents.
Star Trek was released 1994 by Decipher and had at least 10 major expansions before the end of the last century.
