Overview
The Imperial Russian Air Force has been hard pressed in a number of instances, her conventional fighter forces swept from the sky by determined and deadly aerospace fighters. But never again. The IRAF has recently announced the deployment of the Zaitsev, a fast fighter/bomber design that uses deadly short range missiles to inflict heavy damage against enemy aerospace or BattleMech assets.
Capabilities
Basically the Zaitsev is a beefed up Guardian Fighter. Many were captured from Cappellen insurgent forces that attempted to destablize Bryant enough for a Cappellen takeover. These truly sturdy fighters had been much admired by the Imperial Russian Command, which pondered how best to implement the design into their own forces. A number were spread out among counter insurgency groups, and the IRAF decided to see if they could design something better.
Thus the Zaitsev was born. Two large missile pods are located underneath each wing, which make maintance and repair ammazingly easy. The ammo feed that connects to the missile magazine in the body is also easy to maintain and repair. When empty, simply slide the used magazine out the bottom and put a new one in. Refueling and repair take no more then three to fight minutes with a well trained crew and basic field equipment.
This is, much like the Guardian, the primary advantage of the Zaitsev. A single jeep with a hydralic lift or crane and one or two technicians are able to service an entire wing of Zaitsev Fighters and keep them in top shape, even in the field. The thick armor protects vital mechanics and the simple construction keeps things from progressing beyond to complex. Even the cockpit is simple enough for a trainee to become an effective bombing pilot by the end of three days of training.
Deployment
Due to ease of maintance and construction, Zaitsev units have been popping up all over Bryant, and demand is still very high. New Home has also established a plant to produce them, and exports off planet are usually beyond the ability of the plant to meet. Ilyushin will be opening a second plant to handle Zaitsev production, but is also selling blue prints and design specs as the plane is easy enough to produce on any planet with even light manufacturing.

| A bit slow for dogfighting, but I'd use it in a ground-support role. The SRMs are a good deterrent against other fighters too.
