greetings to all...am VERY new in this here forum, but not so new in the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe, as I first got acquainted with the game in my college days more than 10 years ago. Recently purchased the last edition of the box set for Classic Battletech. I reside in Panama and unfortunately not many players around since I don't think the game is well known here except in the Mechwarrior PC game form.
I was wondering if there is any PBM action.

You'll see a few PBeM games start up from time-to-time. Not a ton, but enough. chihawk runs them most frequently, and the first players he usually looks for are people who have already played and then people from this board. So stick around and wait it out. Something will come along.

appreciate it very much. the only thing you will need to be is a little bit patient with me and forward me or point me into the PBM rules you have, so we can be in sync.

my e-mail is armandospurlock@hotmail.com

Welcome to the B&G Kiris65! Glad to see another Drac on the board.

Let me fill you in on the most important "NEW" rule in Chihawk's PBeM game if you get the chance to get in one:

Destroy PINHEAD at all, I reapeat ALL costs!!!! He has wupped our arses in just about every game, to come up on top as the winner.

Show him no mercy.....sacrifice yourself if you have to so maybe one of us poor slobs can finally win!!!!!

P.S. Don't trash talk to him as it will only make it that much more painful when he defeats you...wishes you good hunting next time... and crushes your ego.

You honor me with the presumption of enough skill to defeat this "PINHEAD". However since I am untried I will refrain from dishonoring this tested warrior. And once I have proven my skills in battle, I will challenge this warrior in honorable combat and make him bow with humility in front of our Coordinator.

Didn't I say this? Did anyone listen?

(nevermind the fact that I timed out in that game due to crappy job obligations, thus failing to put my money where my mouth was... )

Welcome. Are you military or a local? Just curious. But look around, learn, ask questions, and you will get sucked in. But as I tell everyone, you can find players. Just have to work at it, and in teh end you may have to recruit and train.

AWAD- I have players here in MI, but little time now

Well, as the only player I know of to actually defeat Pinhead in a PBEM game...

Hehehe, can't defend against the AC20 to the head.

Sounds like I have quite a rooting section!

Kiris,

These folks are kidding you.. I wish I could figure out how I have won these silly things. My motto is:

Better to be lucky than good.

Seems to be working out.

If by chance I start teasing you in one of the games and it bothers you, just drop me a line. I do like to tease, and would hate to see anyone take it seriously.

What, in the MAD II he tends to prefer?

Hmmm, Pin is highly successful in PBeM games. Games run mostly by Chihawk...

Aha! Gentlemen, we must cease Chihawk's finances and examine if Pinhead has been making any ' contributions' around the time that a couple of good rolls would make a difference.

Say Pin, how are you making out in the Lottery? I encourage you to play, it might cyphon off some of that luck you rely on. Let's see how well you run on skill.

Paul

(Yeah, I do know that there's more at work here than Pin's... modesty... about luck. The guy is pretty damn good... )

It will be most honorable to defeat a most respected mechwarrior as you.
Please note that I as well am adept to talk trash with my opponent, however as I stated before I talk the talk when I can walk the walk. so in the meantime I will start from the bottom as everyone else.
I am not "experienced" in PBEM, and I have not played the board game since college.
I am a fast learner though, and I believe it will be like riding a bicycle...once you learn it, you never forget it.
so in the meantime, keep your A/C 10 locked and loaded and heat sinks cool. I hope to get up to the speed of the rest of ya.

hard to answer that one, I am a local, but my stepfather is from Tennessee. He worked as a civilian for the DOD, but now he is retired.
Just so you know a little bit about myself,
am 38, married with two children. I went to college in SUNY, where every Friday night they had games going on like D&D, Battletech, Warhammer, etc...
My roommate in my last year in College was a Battletech fanatic, he loaned me books and I since then I have been hooked.
I started playing, but stopped when I graduated and moved on with my life. I still bought the books, but stopped playing. Recently while surfing the net I discovered the www.classicbattletech.com site, got excited about the game again, purchased the Box set, but I had no one to play with.
Now I hope you accept me into your ranks so I can once more enjoy riding Mechs...

That's mostly true. Just remember that speed is life.

As for the PBeMs, I've found (and/or been told ) that it helps when you play as if you've lost init every turn (since those tend to move simultaneously). While your opponents can never directly respond to your move (beyond guessing), neither can you, so play it safe.

Additionally, move unpredictably. If you're in a Jenner, and move 10 hexes every turn, it only takes a few turns before someone will be waiting right behind you after another 10 hex move.

At the same time, try to move in response to one of the most idiotic moves an opponent can make. It seems that it's safer to bet on another player's idiocy rather than their intelligence. It certainly holds true for me.

Clearly, there's an interaction between those last two axioms. Have fun walking the edge of the blade. =)

Also, be sure to check out Megamek here. It's all the rage these days, with good reason. At the very least you'll get the hang of the game again, more likely you'll have yourself an alternative means of causing death and destruction in the name of the Dragon.

Filthy Kuritan cur.
