This question is addressed to all you speed fanatics out there. If you had to choose seventy tons of level one battlemech with which to take on a level one Imp, could you win the fight (destroying the Imp before having all of your own units destroyed as well), and if so, what 'mechs would you choose.

And for the sake of arguement presume the Imp is being played by a player that is as good as you think you are.

Why tonnage? Why don't we make it so it's BV based? That way it's even. Just because there is only 1 Imp doesn't mean it should have the advantage in BV or Tonnage.

I have neve used BV, so I am not really familiar with the way it breaks things down. Feel free to use it though; I'd be curious to see how matters would break down.

The disadvantage is the whole point, to me anyway; I can think of plenty of combinations of light, quick 'mechs that would chew an Imp apart in an equal tonnage game. Hell, I'd give five Locusts a good shot a doing the job, so long as the terrain was relatively open. I am curious to see if there is anybody who thinks he could pull it off. I picked the Imp, as opposed to the Atlas, because it negates the possibility of choosing 'mechs with long range weapons and just sitting outside of the Atlas' weapons range and sniping the 'mech to pieces. If it were 70 tons vs. an Atlas, my answer would be simple; two Panthers, stay outside of 15 hexes until the LRMs run out, and then finish him off with the PPCs, never getting within nine hexes. One Panther might even pull it off, although this would be a bid dodgy, given it has to survive a 12 round LRM-20 pummelling with its mobility and PPC intact.

Then the battle could go either way no matter what, because of the dice.

My statement was more philosophical in nature...if I had a dime for every player that thgought he was the best player around (in any game) I wouldn't need to ever work

Talk about deck stacking 70 tons of light vs. a 100 ton assault are you that unsure of your ability that you not only need a BV edge but a tonnage edge as well?Sounds to me like you do not feel that you have a chance on a level playing field.

I suppose the vaunted Ice Hellion skill in light 'mechs is an overstatement? After all, it is a Clan ideal to bid the smallest force with which it is possible to achieve victory. Well, the Jade Falcons have always been superior to Ice Hellions; you are, after all, only a homeworld clan.

*thinks* Well, to achieve maximum potential for victory, you need to be mobile, and you need to hit hard. A few lucky dice rolls wouldn't hurt, but I digress. Depending on the person piloting the IMP and how much I know about them, 'Mechs that might be selected include the Spider, the Firestarter, the Wolfhound, the Wasp and the Phoenix Hawk.

In an open field, I'd take two Wolfhounds and try to outflank him while laying down serious firepower.

In more rough terrain, I'd take the Spider and the Firestarter combo, or maybe two of one model and none of the other depending on my whims.

The Wasp and Phoenix Hawk are an unusal combo, and would likely not be used unless I was feeling particularly crazy.

And those are my selections. Overall, the Imp has failed to impress me in the past, so I just need to maximize what I can squeeze out of my machines. Hmmm...one last note...

I might also take a Grasshopper 4N, the one with the PPC and 5 Med lasers. I think that shows promise against an Imp as well. It ALL depends on the terrain and the person piloting the Imp and what I know/don't know about them.

The grasshopper idea is intriguing, as are the Wolfhounds; they at least mount enough armor that one lucky shot from the Imp is not likely to finish them.

In a level one match I would use a pair of JR-7F Jenners.Care to try it?

Not really; I came up with the same solution.

Shut your surat hole if you are unwilling to put your honor on the line. Jade Falcons superior? More like shoulder birds of the Smoke Jaguars if you ask me.
