Here is something I think is lacking in the BT universe...Stratigic bombers.

==Overview:==
The Vickers Valiant is the first of the so called "V"class bombers named after
British stratigic bombers of the mid 20th century to enter ODF
service.Iintended to deliver a massive bomb load to a target This craft
revives the concept of the stratigic bomber
==Capabilities:==
Two massive Bomb bays each with a 20 ton capacity allow this craft to deliver
a massive amount of damage with the capability of crrying this load through
the space atmosphere interface.Under wing hard points allow it to carry a
variety of extwernal stores when ground based including bombs air to surface
missiles and air to air missiles the ER large laser and 5 ER medium laser give
it a minimal self defense ability but generaly they are provided with a
fighter escort.
==Variants:==
The bomb bays are sometimes modified to carry standard cargo on some ships
others have been equiped with seats for jump infantry that are air
droped.There are also varients that carry air to surface missiles in the bomb
bay
==Deployment==
Valiants are deployed with naval landing squadrons and air force stratigic
support units.

That is an interesting concept. Especially since there has been a bunch of posts recently about returns to more conventional fighting in the BT universe. In certain scenarios these bombers could be useful. They are slow enough that they would need to becareful about getting too close to active mechs, but mechs in repair bays and hardened fortresses would be sitting ducks.

And if you are dropping your load of cluster bombs from 30,000 metres nothing ground based short of arty is going to reach you and with a bomb load like they carry...can you say carpet bombing?

thats why i posted a 200ton special tank with a 200ton trailor that crept along. carried 1 barricuda missile launcher that Warships use and 4 or 5 reloads. you positioned it, loaded the launcher and fired it. they were designed as Close Space Defense batteries, that would shoot dropships, warships, and aerofighters entering the atmosphere or in low orbit.
they where fairly cheep and could blow the but off a vessel before it could do anything. several hundred of these could easily repel any amphibious assult and since they were mobile... all the better. working in conjuction with hardened facilities your world was fairly safe.
