Let's look back at the 1st SW:
IF Kurtia had pushed everything toward New Avalon instead of trying to grab Robinson, could they have taken NA in the first or second year of the fighting?
Let's hear some thoughts on this.

I don't think they could have taken New Avalon, although Kurita did field a better quality of soldier during the First Succession War ( and this comes from a Fed!!). The fighting would have cost the Snakes too much in the way of mechs, drop and jumpships and support units, leaving the Lyrans a very tempting target along their front.
Could Kurita sustain the casualties necessary to acheive victory? I doubt it and do not forget that the Feds were regrouping around New Avalon at the time. The fight for the system would have been crippling for both sides, but the Federated Suns could rebuild a lot faster than the Dracs.

I agree, The Dracs may have even taken NewAvalon, but the Fedsuns has always enjoyed a Resource (population and material) and Manufacturing advantage over Kurita. Davion would have been able to recover first, and eventually push them back.
I think Kurita can claim sole credit for the quality/ training of the Fedsuns armed forces. Liao rarely made an offensive that was truly threatening to the Fedsuns, while Kurita was.
I think that the 3022 alliance and other stuff would never have happened tho'. the time that would have been required for the recovery of worlds from Kurita would have forced a lot of developments to a later date, if they happened at all.
The Halstead Station library and Helm Datacore may never have met up at the NAIS, the resources to even build the academy may not have been available.

If New Avalon had fallen, Liao might have pounced a lot harder than they did on the reeling Davion regime. Also, the Federated Suns itself might have shattered with the main symbol of Davion strength in Kurita hands. Also, the point that Davion enjoyed a population and industrial advantage would be nullified if the Combine controlled a huge swatch of Fed. Suns territory.
As for other Houses...things could have broken down lots of different ways. Steiner would be forced to concentrate on Kurita at the expense of Marik. Marik and Liao might have spend less time at each other's throats in order to concentrate on taking out the weakened Federated Suns and threatened Lyran Commonwealth. There definitely would never have been a Federated Commonwealth, and Wolf's Dragoons might have ended up first signing on with Kurita, which could have changed lots of things.

I thought Wolf's Dragoons did sign with Kurita ( although I might ahve my dates wrong... who came first.)
I don't know about Liao.... They were tactically and strategically weak with questioanble leadership. Although they might have made initial headway, things would have bogged down for them (as always) due to poor planning or the meddling of the House Leader.

Kurita was the last contract before 4th SW. The dragoons contracted with Davion and flew the coop when Kurita tried to Company Store them, among other political reasons.
The death to mercenaries order was originally directed at the Dragoons. If the dragoons did join Kurita first, the Halstyead station archives would be in Kurita hands. More likely the ISF, given the closed Kurita Society, Comstar just may have either succeeded in erasing the knowledge or ends up pissing Kurita off at them a second time in a decade. Instead of just Mori, there would probably be a whole bunch of O5P agents in Comstar.

Thanks. I remember the "death to mercenary order", but was confused with who hired the Dragoons first. Thanks for setting me straight.
