Wannallo was creating an interesting
discussionand I would like to join asking
when you had to arrange a lance(other than supposed BV or tons limits agreed)how do
you prefere to conforme your lance composit.?
Usually Ilike to join type mechs giving priority at their speed rate sacrificing weapons range
compatibility.
X ex.CRD-3L CPLT VND VND
GRF CGR-3K SHD-K WVR
CN9-D DRG SCP STN and so on.
Or at least sholdn't be too much difference
between their speed especially if you are
the attaker in a scenario.
Indeed could be an exception when you defend, example I got a lance composed
by AS UMR UMR CDA
I was playing a game as a defender,my
force composition was:GLT ENF BJ WVE
2 Typhoon 2 hetzer some inf plt
The attaker was a clan coposed by:
FIRE MOTH,INCUBUS................................
Huitzilopochtli.........Maaaaarssssssss.
I mean You are free to choose wathever
you want but using with common sense.
They enter in the 1st turn all together
and hide the "Huey" behind a hill, spotted by
some fast hover and than vomit fire on
my unit.
I like to play and have fun,but this is a
nonsense(also the huey had a secondary
arsenal to consider).

I'll try for compatible speeds at first. If it looks bad I'll go for a division, some fast mechs supporting a slower bruiser team. And of course, someone with short-range stuff to keep people away from the long-range gunner.
Harper's Hunters is made up of lances that match speeds, for example. Epper's command lance contains two Griffins (-3M) and two Wolverines (-6RU). Deadly at any range, and decent speed.
Another lance consists of a Cicada and three Locusts. Extremely fast but light on the firepower. Use as raiders, scouts or fast cavalry.
If I mix speeds in a lance I try to make it worth it in terms of firepower. One really tough level 1 lance had a Centurion, a Vulcan VL-5T, an Archer and a Phoenix Hawk. The faster mechs ran around messing things up while the slower ones just advanced for the smackdown. The enemy had some trouble choosing who to attack and from where.

I prefere to mix speedy dtrike scout mechs with a hard hitter. Such as
3025,
2 Jenner JR7-D's
1 Panther PNT-9R
1 Centurion CN9-A
This way I used the Jenners to act as quick strike units, with the Panther setting itself up in a good strike position and the Centurion acting as a support mech but also a sponge for heavy attacks. leave the Centurion the only worthwhile mech to attack, then bring the other 2 guys round when the enemy commit themselves and provide fire support with the Panther.
I lose count how many times this works! Especially on terrain with decent cover seperated by open areas.

If I am doing lance on lance, then I usually have 2 really fast and 2 mediocre. So the light and the medium mostly stay together and the heavy and the assault stay together. On some terrains though I have everything from a superfast light to a really slow assault. It depends on terrain, opponent and my mood.

My Panther's tend to end up in the heavy lance because of speed...of course, the big gun helps too

I love the Panther but in the big lance it dies quick. Lets see, a Warhammer, Archer, Rifleman and a Panther...... We all target the Panther, whack it and then it is 4 on 3. But then in fast lances it slows it down the lance to much. Many times I have seen the 3 fast mechs out and about and the Panther dangles by iteself and suddenly gets jump at point blank range by a Commando and Locust.
If I remeber right your drop the 4 rack then you can get 5/8/5 and either .5 or 1 ton weapon. Then the Panther is a royal pain.
On to the main subject. If I run campaigns then speed can be a issue, becasue your fast lance is slowed down by a Whitworth. Then the enemy gets to the location first. This is doubly true if you play Battleforce.
For just lance on lance then at least one mech that moves 6/9/9 or 7/11 is needed. They either move to flank or protect your flank. If you all move 4/6 then you may have issues.
AWAD- An all 5/8/5 lance is the best mix of firepower and mobility
