Now that Arrow IV and its siblings are becoming more and more widely deployed, I have a question for everyone. What kind of artillery does everyone like to use, and have you used it recently?
And, has anyone ever used artillery against you?
I scared one player half to death when my Naga Omnimech walked onto the field. Didnt hit any of his mechs at all, but he kept quite alot of space between his troops and my TAG spotters.

I use Arrow IV and Standard Arty, but prefer Arrow IV pieces with homing missiles. I always have a pathfinder unit with tag and a couple of scout mechs with it also. Of the standard arty I prefer the long range long toms, but will use almost any under pressure, extra fire power is always valuable. It isnt unusual for me to rebuild any catapault I get to the Arrow IV variant or as close to it as I can get. I try to have all my arty mechs hidden at the start of the scenario, and then open a can when I have a few good TAG locks in the same turn, any other tag locks I may have gotten will be used by my semi-guided LRMs.

NOTE: When playing as a clan the only arty I use is the Naga omnimech.

The Naga is almost the perfect artillery mech. Few short comings but what canon mech doesn't?

I don't see the Naga having shortcomings....unless you mean the Naga B or C

" close only counts in artillery and horseshoes"... I have been the victim of this "closeness" a number of times playing against opponents with "guns". Thus, I have a particular dislike for artillery units. However, if I had to use some, I would have to share my vote between the Arrow IV system and the Long Toms.

"playing anything...just play it LOUD!!!"

I'm a Long Tom kinda guy myself. Nothing sez "Reach out and touch someone" like the range on one of those.

And, we haven't used arty in our game for a while. Might be time to break them out.

I like the semi-guided LRMs. In most cases an LRM-20 firing accurate indirect fire is all the artillery you need.

I use four Thors and four Thumpers. The Thumpers are towed, so I don't bring them out as often as I should anymore, (They're kinda a pain in the pants!).

Alexander (Arty is nasty, and Tanks are super-fancy!)
