I am Oafman's new mech sparring partner. I am considering this scenario and was interested in all of your input.
Using the 3025 TRO and the 3026 TRO. making a mech lance of no more than 250 tons and no jumping mechs; versus, a 3 lance vehicle company consisting of no more than 500 tons and no fighters or VToL's. The scenario runs as this: the vehicles arrive at a bridge that must be kept from the advancing mech force. The mech force needs the bridge for a battalion that is following 3 hours behind. there is a 4 hex wide roadway(reinforced) leading to the bridge in both directions, the road is flanked by scattered light woods and sheer cliff walls rising up, the bridge crosses a river that has worn a steep riverbed into the rock. bridge only way across.
What vehicles would you choose(using only 3025 and 3026 TRO's) and what mechs would you pick( using only 3025 TRO) variants are allowed.

Since I do not own either of those TRO, unfourtunately, I cannot help. I will however say this, I've always been partial to the Zhukov, and 2 of those wouldnt do too badly as part of this unit.

As I will be the vehicle commander in this particular engagement this is my preliminary forces.
Support lance: 2 LRM carriers, 2 Hunters.
Strike lance: 2 Condors, 2 Harassers.
Fire lance: Schrek, 3 Scorpions.
I know the choices are odd but I had to spread the weight out some and the smaller vehicles don't have the armor to wothstand much punishment in a firefight, especially against mechs.
All my choices are the standard, non-varients in the 3026 TRO

Your support lance looks good. You might want to trade out the Condors for something a bit lighter (perhaps Pegasus, Saracen or Saladin) or because the 3 Scopions just don't cut it. They have neither armor nor firepower. You also might want to trade out the Schrek. The firepower is nice, but it's heavy and you're running out of weight. The Manticore is effective and 20 t lighter. That fire lance might be best with a mixture of motive systems - say two with tracked and two with hover.

Mechs:

Centurion CN9-A 50 tons
Trebuchet TBT-5S 50 tons
Warhammer WHM-6D 70 tons
Awesome AWS-8Q 80 tons

Vehicles:

Fast attack-
4X J.Edgar light hover tank = 100 tons

Fearsome bruisers-
4X Hetzer wheeled assault gun = 160 tons

Firepower lance-
4X Manticore heavy tank = 240 tons

You know, I don't think the mechs can win this scenario...

One thing...to be fair to Oafman( the mech commander) I opted to not use any AC/20 bearing vehicles.

OKay, here's my updated lineup.
Support lance: 2 LRM carriers, 2 Hunters.
Strike lance: 4 Pegasus.
Fire lance: 2 Manticores, 2 J. Edgars.
Hopefully Oafman will learn not to underestimate the power of conventional units.
Might be a hard lesson too.

Those Hetzer's would be worthless in this scenario anyway. I'd just snipe at them from long range until they died. If they tried to cross the bridge to get to me, that makes my job even easier while they're all bottled up.

Hetzers worthless? Not so, just have them hang back until the mechs advance to the bridge. Besides, the other vehicles would be hurting you while you're firing at the Hetzers.

But since it was no AC/20s I present a new approach.

Exchange the J.Edgars for Saracens, replace the Hetzers with Galleons. Keep the Manticores.

Oh, they're good vehicles, in some situations. But the problem is, I would not advance with the 'mechs until I had taken most of the vehicles out at long range.

I have several questions:
1. are the vehicles there to hold the bridge until mech reinforcement or a demolition team arrives?

2. What determines the \"capture\" of the bridge?

3. Is it the complete annihilation of the vehicles?

4.having the whole mech lance accross?

5. or an area free of vehicles a # of hexes from the bridge?

6.How wide is the river?

Three hours represent approximately 1080 turns, that is a lot of turns.

Personally, I'd include a couple of artillery pieces, and some hidden infantry spotters, with the conventional forces.

A company of Bulldogs out to do the trick for the vehicles....I'd use two lances of the standard LL equiped and a lance of the LRM version.

As far as mechs I'd think about something like Centurion AL, Hunchback J, Orion K, and a Maraduer.

I was using this scenario as a part of a non-played campaign. The Mech force is advancing to this bridge(being the only bridge reinforced to withstand mech travel forging the river for 100km) in advance of the rest of the army to take and hold the bridge.
The vehicles are part of the local defense forces and were rushed to the bridge from the other side to try to secure the bridge prior to mech forces arrive.
Due to circumstances not involved in this scenario there will be no reinforcements for either side for days. The river is 6 hexes wide and 5 levels deep(3 levels down to the water's surface and 2 levels of water). The heavy duty road is 4 hexes wide and the bridge is 2 hexes wide with a 120 structure rating per hex(yes damage can occcur to the bridge using standard scatter tables). The bridge is a deck girder type so there is minimal superstructure rising above it's surface.
For the vehicles to win they must destroy all mechs, drive them 2 maps from the bridge, or accept their surrender.
For the mechs to win they must destroy all the vehicles, drive them 2 maps from the bridge, or accept their surrender.
In keeping with the campaign flavor I will pull my vehicles from the bridge if the commander feels it's worth more to withdraw rather than be annihilated, hopefully the mech commander will think along the same lines.
In destroy I mean to make the oppnents' units so as they cannot continue combat(ie. gyro out, drive train destroyed and not facing enemy, etc...)
Hopefully this helps clear up some of your questions.

Wait a second! according to the initial post, the mech lance WILL get reinforcements in a specified amount of time by the form of a battalion.

don't get me wrong, I like the scenario.

But may I suggest a limited turn scenario?
If for example the mech lance fails to capture the bridge in 20 turns, the vehicle lance wins.

or maybe have the vehicles defend the bridge until a friendly support column passes through.
