I need a bit of guidance here;

A lance of comstar 'mechs is deployed to the Chaos March as peacekeepers in 3057, and to observe for Word of Blake activity. What would be the composition of the lance, and how many spare parts would it carry?

well....I can roll it out as a random assignment on the comstar tables I have, or I could pick a unit from the comstar TRO for ya... That area is technicaly part of the domain of the 4th Army....so the Lance would come from them. I'll put here a few example lances from divisions of the 4th army.

83rd Division
FS9-S Firestarter
OW-1 Owens
KGC-001 King Crab
MON-66 Mongoose
Drillson Hover Tank
GLT-3N Guillotine

166th Division
Infantry II, Laser
MON-66 Mongoose
2 - RGU-133L Rogue
ASN-23 Assassin
FS9-S Firestarter
Manticore Heavy Tank

79th Division
MON-66 Mongoose
THE-N Thorn
BL-9-KNT Black Knight
CRK-5003-1 Crockett
BMB-12D Bombardier
FLS-8K Flashman

321st Division
MCY-99 Mercury
PLG-3Z Pillager
NXS1-A Nexus
Fury
KGC-000 King Crab
MCY-99 Mercury

Note: All these examples are pulled from the www.chaosmarch.com website, and the information on which army to look under is from the Field Manual Comstar

forgot the spare parts themselves. I'd take at least 1 complete actuator package for each mech, and a replacement of each unit's primary weapon(s). For something like a King Crab with 2 AC/20s, I'd only take 1 extra. This is of course assuming a good supply line. If its gonna be hard to get supplies, take as much replacement weapons as you can.

Both the composition of the lance and it's spare parts supply is variable dependant upon the current and expected hostility of possible opponents(WoB forces, rioters, guerrilla forces, etc...).
If it was expected to have little to no combat then I could see them posting old Star League designs to this mission, and spare parts would be mostly routine maintanence, with ammo reserves, armor and structure replacement stores as well as assorted actuators and minor weapon systems.
If heavy combat was expected I would expect to see a more modern lance with All the spare parts previously stated as well as engine shielding repair kits, gyro repair kits, major weapon systems, probably double to triple the ammo and armor stores, and a cocpit or two( Basically enough to make at least one mech if you had the facility).
Also if heavy combat is expected there would be a shorter duty rotation to keep morale high and personnel rested.
