That's total insanity! The slightest mishap will result in complete annihilation for both pod and pilot.

I used a bunch of Hellions and Phantoms with large numbers of small weapons in the 3rd battle of the Martial Olympiad to shred a force that included an Atlas and Stalker

I had a guy use an LAM in air mech mode to do a physical attack that we figured orignated the equivalent of 18 hexes above my Marauder IIC. We didnt know whether to call it a charge or DFA attack.

Now that is just insane. Did that attack hit? Or did the Lam just splatter itself all over the field?
I had to give up on DFA because I have bad luck when it comes to piloting skill rolls. I would make the attack but miss the roll to land and almost kill the mech with falling damage.

He hit, actually. The LAM pretty much smashed itself to atoms, and sheared off the left arm off the Marauder IIC. Needless to say, I wasted no time in kiling the other two LAMs he was using.
Another nifty thing for vacuum combat would be the Silver Bullet gauss ammo in the back of the Unbound Mechwarrior RPG module. It was created to hunt elementals, but works good against mechs. I dont have the particulars in front of me, but I recall something about the SB ammo fragmenting a' la LBX cluster ammo. Lots of nifty stuff in the back of that book......

Air burst fragmentary artillery shells would be interesting. All that shrapnel, it would only be a matter of time before someones cockpit lost rpressure and they were sucked out into the vacuum of space.

Here is a scenario for you...
The battle of IO. Volcanoes, low grav, vacuum... WEEEEE
Modifiers galore. FIrst person to successfully land a mech and move it more than 3 hexes without blowing themselves up wins. hehe

yeh with Missiles and ballistics dropping at their mechs feets and blowing them up! Using jump jets and breaking the mechs legs after falling 20 feet!
Use your ejector seat, fires upwards and back down comfortably into its original position before your engine blows!
More seriously, wouldn't VTOL's and Hovers not work in high gravity, and be more effective in low gravity?

Without an atmosphere, VTOLs and hovercraft wouldn't work at all.

on a 0.1g world with atmosphere my racer can achieve 1720 hexes crusing and 2508 hexes flanking or a max speed of 27864 kph.

Reminds me of an aircraft doing Mach XX. Youre fine if you dont bank. Immagine having to make the piloting rolls on that one if you had to dodge craters or something.

Assuming the tires don't melt first....
And what about the turbulence and the shock wave when you hit the sound barrier... I don't know if a ground vehicle could keep stable during that.
Ok science guys, help me out here!
