I need people's opinions on this one. I am designing a quick lance against lance game for some friends. Due to Big Game Long Island (paintball), I will miss the action, but at least I will be there in spirit. 
Here is the scanerio ( of their choosing):
Time: 2988
Kuritan recon lance lands on a backwater planet. (they want only lights)
Goal is to raid scout for rumored artillery manufacturing facility (Davion).
Defending force also consists of light mechs(one lance guarding factory, one scouting for the "raiders").
Engagement is to occur close to dusk. If game last more than 10 rounds, night fighting comes into effect (again, their choice).
So, they asked me to compose the Kuritan and the defenders lances. I could use some ideas. This what I have so far:
Kurita:
2 Jenners JR7-d
2 Panthers PNT-9R
Defenders (Davion):
Scout Lance:
1 Locust LCT-1S
2 Commando COM-2D
1 Valkyrie VLK-QA (lance leader)
Factory Defense:
1 Wasp WSP-1A
1 Javelin JVN -10N
1 Urbanmech UM-R60
1 Firestarter FS9-H (Lance leader)
Additional points: All 4 players are of the same caliber, i.e. newbies. All have some gaming experience and they understand the rules. It will be a two on two game.

I would drop one or both Panthers, I consider them too slow for a recon group, I'd replace them with Wasp/Spider/Jenner/Phoenix Hawk.
Unless the Jenners are there to find the target and the Panthers are there for the firepower.
As for the Davions, I think the Commando is only constructed by the Lyrans.
I'd keep the Valkyrie as it's a scout hunter and the Locust is good too, maybe add a second one. I'd think about adding a Javelin/Spider/Assassin.
As for the garrison lance, I like the Urbie and the Javelin, but have doubts to the Firestarter. If the date was later I'd add a Hatchetman but they weren't around then. You could add a Valkyrie here too.
I know you said all lights but I couldn't help but suggest at least one medium for both sides.

I'll second the first part of that. The Panthers are tough mechs, but too slow for recon. Replace them with something faster.
The Davion force doesn't really need any work, those mechs are part of a backwater garrison for a reason. Old house mechs, salvaged enemies and the odd bits that lack spare parts anyway. Dump them in a garrison where they might do something useful without straining the supply system of the front-line troops.

Thanks for the comments. I will adjust the Kuritan lance to reflex the fast moving style of a recon lance.
