This is a lance sized matchup:

Davion:

1 Jagermech
2 Enforcers
1 Javelin

Kurita

1 Dragon
3 Panthers

The setting is rolling hills and woods. Who will win.

The JagerMech is a joke! The Enforcers, while capable, are thin-skinned. The Javelin has only short-range weaponry.

The Dragon is a disgrace! The Panthers are tough and hard-hitting.

Massed fire tactics, House Kurita wins. They don't even lose any units.

Although a Davion fan, the only worthwhile units are the Enforcers, with the good workhorse punch, the Jagermech is pathetic, as is the dragon. The three Panthers could wipe everything else out.

I had a Jagermech get destroyed by a Jenner. which was piloted by a rookie! It just ran straight at me and blew off the arms!

As the Davion commander I would set the Enforcers out in open and advance on the enemy. I would keep the JagerMech back but not too far, about 6 hexes or so behind the Enforcers, and I would send the Javelin as a harrasser, keeping it in cover and highly mobile until I could get a couple good shots before it went down. I would concentrate on the Panthers as they really are the better targets, they have comparable damage as the Dragon does but much less armor.

As the Kurita commander I would rush the enemy making sure to keep the Dragon slow enough for the Panthers to keep up. As long as they stay together I stand an excellent chance of minimal battle losses. I would concentrate on the two support designs first, take out the JagerMech and the Javelin then turn my forces on the Enforcers.

I would love to play test this. (hint hint Oafman)

-Edit- Why not use a Valkyrie instead of a Javelin? The Davions have more of them and they are a Davion design as the Panther is a Kurita design.

As an egotistical Kuritan of course I will say we will win. Do not mock the Dragon. After play testing them with Seraph I do not think that they are as bad aas some would say. Especially if used correctly.

The Dragon and Javelin are about useless. With the Enforcers and JagerMech against the Panthers, I think with the right mindset the Davions will come out victorious.

This one shouldn't even be close.

The Snakes win, and shouldn't lose more than one, maybe two mechs..

As a Kurita Mechwarrior I would initially favor those forces. However I think I would need more info. Which varients are you talking about? The standard 3025? I happen to like the 3025 panther rather than the upgraded ERPPC version (not enough heat sinks). There are many excellent Grand Dragon varients, so that could also affect the battle. The new enforcers are also a very effective in-fighter, 5-8-5, would have the mobility and firepower to destroy the Panthers provided initiative and terrain worked to their favor.

In conclusion I would think that an above average player could win with either force with some good tactics and some good dice rolls.

Nothing like a good day of sleep to set your mind working again.

I've used all the machines involved, but didn't take the time to say why I like or dislike them. The snakes are going to win on an average day, IMO. A bad commander (or very good Davionist commander) could still turn the tables.

The JagerMech is simply too frail to stand against real mechs. They'll go internal in a few hits, while the JMs weaponry has done exactly nothing. Hanging back with the AC/2s would be smart, except that leaves your other mechs to take the first blow on their own. Point, with your worst pilot.

The Enforcers' real problem is ammo. Carrying only ten reloads for the AC/10 means they'll run out, unless they don't shoot. Mind you, mechs that don't shoot aren't hurting the enemy. You'll have to shoot and hope for the best.

The Javelin packs a nasty short-range punch, but it's not equal to three Panthers... It could try tying up the Dragon?

The Dragon is a very odd unit. A fast heavy mech with medium armor and no real knock-out punch. Harass the enemy, run around them, look for a chance to charge someone who turns a back. Not my favorite heavy, but it will be useful here. Suck up some fire from the Enforcers while the Panthers work on killing them.

The Panthers are the real striking power in the Kuritist force. The PPC is a potent gun, and anyone coming too near is going to get some crit-seeking SRMs too. They're still light mechs and should avoid a fair fight with the Enforcers.

Assuming that this is a 3025 match up, I will have to admit that the third Panther is probably the deciding force in a straight up fight. The Snakes will have 4 PPCs blasting away to the FedSuns 2 AC/10s. Although the Enforcers are the strongest mechs on the Davion side, their ammo reliance is their downfall (especially in a extended Battle of attrition).

That being said, a Davion lance commander can win using the proper tactics. By concentrating on the Panthers, the Davion lance will take loses, but they will also eliminate the most powerful offensive punch the Snakes are fielding. Using the Javelin as a harasser, those SRMs can finish the jobs the AC/10s and the nibbling AC/2s start.

A Kuritan commander should try to engage the Enforcers right away and take them out of the battle as quickly as possible. After that the Jaggermech is a sitting duck and the Javelin should then run away ( if still able).

I like this match up. It is definitely a game that should be played to get real results.

I was talking the standard 3025 designs. I would have said grand dragon if I meant otherwise.

OK, on the davion side switch the Javelin to a Valkyrie, and switch one of the Panthers out for a Jenner.

The matchup would not be so evnely matched if the Kuritan Forces had a Grand Dragon and Davion just had the standard versions of theirs. The Dragon makes a good complement to the Panthers, but does not tip the scales too much. I also like that this scenario puts together a very plausible 3025 battle between these two enemies.

Some conventional forces would be nice too. I know House Davion is partial to the Bulldog, but am not too certain what sorts of vehicles Kurita typically uses.

I don't agree at all with you.
I mean in general all this mechs will
suffer for ammo explosion, this is a common
drawback.
Regarding JM6 I thought that if used
in couple with a good support could be
useful.
During a game we was playng in 4 maps
(2 basic and 2 rolling hills) and there was a stalling situation, than JM6's AC2 was
the only weapon firing each round.
Personally i made a lance composed by:
JM6
