Heavy Recoilless Rifles
-----------------------------------------Range
Type---Damage---Heat---Mass--S------M------L
RR2---------2--------2-------1-----1-3---4-6----7-9
RR5---------5--------3-------2-----1-2---3-4----5-6
Auto loader------------------.5

The heavy recoilless rifle design showed up in the OLA and Ice Hellion Flurry units at the same time though they were developed independantly and while performance is similar the designs themselves are different . they can be towed on an open carrage or mounted in a vehicle on a pintle mount or open back turret If mounted on a mech they must be torso mounted and the back section of the torso it is mounted in has a large opening for the back blast with out an autoloader they take one round to load mechs must use an autoloader.

The back blast from a RR2 does 1d6 points of damage to any unprotected infantry in the hex directly behind the gun and fills it with smofe for 1 round. The backblast from the RR5 does 3d6 points of damage to unprotected infantry directly behind the gun and 1d6 in the hex following both hexes being filled with smoke for one round

A mech taking a shot to the rear Torso of a mech carrying a recoilless gunmust make a a critical role if hit in the rear torso of the location that the weapon is located in

Whoa, nice idea, but to many drawbacks. I likw the idea of new ballistic weaponary though, it is almost always energy weapons that people come up with, including fasa.

Well these are designed primarily to be cheap weapons for use on second line vehicles and as towed support weapons. There use in mechs is more of an expediant.

It's easy to miss. Just point the tube in the wrong direction and press FIRE.

Seriously. You have to correct your aim for target movement, and the backblast forces you to choose firing positions with it in mind. It's just a dumb rocket anyway.

In RL Recoilless rifles have about the same accuracy as standard guns just shorter ranges . The other problems they have are of course the back blast and the fact that the ammo requires a lot more propellant than a standard gun.

Neg the back blast replaces the recoil in Newtonian physics as you know that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction in most fire arms the reaction is the force applied to the weapon. In a recoilless rifle the energy is either released by a back blast of high velocity gasses (most modern Weapons) or with a counter shot (the early guns) either way the end result is no recoil applied to the weapon itself.
