OK lvl three rules have streak MRM's. Have they really lost the plot in lvl 3? I mean the whole purpose of the MRM was a cheap, direct fire dumb fire weapon with a large payload. I mean SMRM40's would be huge, and the streak/homing ability would make the missiles the size of LRM's, so its completely defeating the object of the MRM. lol

I've noticed a few clashes with the Lvl 3 weapons. Were they running out if ideas?

Can you point out what book this level 3 rule is in?

Yeah ... I'd like to know as well ... because I've never heard of it.

That would be pretty stupid. Personally, I use MRMs in the 3025 setting. They're the sort of thing small planets would start producing, once stocks of SRMs and LRMs starting running low. Houses Liao and Kurita in particular would rely upon weapons of this sort, although everyone would use at least some.

I saw them on a level 3 weapons list on a site a while back, i will track it down and provide a link, was apparently no custom weapons on it so figured they a official weapon.

Far too many use the designation of "level 3" for house rules and custom equipment, which is probably the case here.

Streak MRMs do not exist anywhere in the canon universe...

To be fair I wish MRMs were just a little less bad. I mean its a neat concept and with just a slightly lower tonnage or crit-space cost it would be a decent weapon ... but as they sit who would ever get one?

The only way I'd ever use one is if it were an MRM30 or MRM40...you get better results from other weapons than using an MRM10 or MRM20...

Yeah the MRM 30 and 40s are actually not that bad however I don't think I could stomach using either unless I had an improved gunner ... just too of your mech's firepower would be relying on that single MRM roll.

The other thing worth noting is rolling locations for all of those missiles surely will slow things down a bit. Fear the day someone makes a mech with a pair of MRM40s on it ... it'll take an hour for each round of combat if he hits with them both ...

They were running out of ideas, money, plots . . . .

You know it costs a lot to maintain 2nd-rate authors like Stackpole.
Then along came WizKids, and ruined it with Devlin Stone.

Storm

and yeah, the idea of streak MRMs does defeat the purpose. I've actually never used them. SSRMS work just fine for me.

My Tempest mech mounted two, was alright. It doesn't slow the game down as much as two LB20-X AC's. I had em on my Gladiator, talk about rolls!

SMRM's appear on the MW4 Mercs game. But then again, MW4 had the bombast laser! what a piece of junk!

Also take into account the fact that on average 24 out of the 40 missiles hit.

Yeah 24 damage for 7 crits, 12 tons, and 12 heat isn't really that bad at all. Sure its distributed damage but still MRM's allow you to make support mechs out of brawlers ... out of mechs that are going to run in and get in someone's face. In fact 24 damage for 7/12/12 is damned good as far as IS is concerned.

Maybe I'll whip up an essentially level one Catapult-based MRM boat, just to show how the technology could be deployed in a 3025 setting. An Archer or Stalker variant could work nicely too.
