I read a book where Marines in WWII were expected to throw themselves on live grenades, to save their squadmates.
Its not WWII, nor is it a live grenade, but this Marine threw himself into the line of danger to save his fellow soldiers.
Semper Fi, man. Semper Fi.

Not EXPECTED, but it happened several times. If that had been the case here The good captain would have been awarded the Medal of Honor, not the Navy Cross. If he had gotten a tank or pillbox, and a wound in the bargain, he would have had a medal of honor.
Good job Marine!

Every man with him was his Brother, The ones that followed him, and the ones that didn't, and he didn't GIVE UP when his own ammo depleted, he picked up enemy arms and kept fighting untill the clear and pressent danger to his Brothers was erradicated. Brother saving Brother, a true american soldier.
Well Done Brother MARINE, truely;
One of the Few,
One of the Proud,
One of our MARINES!
