Greetings all,

Today's match up is a little different with the inclusion of a third mech. Each of these mechs have strong, if not fanatical, supporters. The candidates are all of the medium class:

a.) The Phoenix Hawk PHX-1
b.) The Shadow Hawk SHD-2H
c.) The Griffin GRF-1N

I picked these three (and this might have already been done) specifically for the following reasons:

1.) These mechs are among some of the most common mediums in the Inner Sphere,

2.) They appear in every House (with some Houses favoring certain mechs, like Steiner's preference for the Griffin),

3.) The mechs make up the backbone of a large number of mercenary forces,

4.) They each possess advantages and weaknesses that make them pretty well-rounded units,

5.) We all have used/faced one or all of these mechs sometime in our BT life. Plus, they look cool.

So, in the open, rolling hills with clusters of trees, which mech do you think will carry the day? Does this opinion change when the fight is brought into the city? Does the weapons package on a specific mech pose enough of a tactical advantage to guarantee victory? And lastly, which is your favorite?

So many questions for Friday....

I am a big Ph-Hawk fan. It would clean up on the Shad, but the Griffin would be tough depending on luck oif the draw.

I will have to say that either the P-hawk or the Griffin could win. The s-hawk would not do as well against the other two and would likely only win of the pilot was lucky. Given equal pilots who favor the mechs they are playing the P-hawk should come out on top most of the time with the Griffin coming in second. It also depends on who starting fighting who. 3 for alls are hard places to determine the set winner. In the ones I always played the runt frequently won if only because the bigger mechs beat each other up and the runt cleaned up.

Witness to the toughness and maneuverability of the P'hawk in The Battledrome, am beginning to be a believer....

I gotta go with the Shadow Hawk on this one. The guns may not be the biggest, but it has the varied weapons load, that will work in any terrain. Get yourself a good pilot, and youll be able to beat up on the PHX, and work over the GRF without too much trouble.
I think in the city, the PHX will ahve a bit of an advantage (weapons with no minumum range) and the GRF will just plain suck. Its guns arent built for close in knife fighting.

I voted PHX-1. It runs a little hot, but overall I think it is the best choice. The Griffin is a close second, with the Shadowhawk being a joke.

I went for the Griffin in the open terrain. It has the long range advantage over the Phoenix Hawk and the firepower advantage over the Shadow Hawk. It will be a tough one taking down the Phoenix Hawk but I have accomplished it more than a few times and am confident of victory...barring die rolls.

In a city I would have to side with the Phoenix Hawk. Mainly because it could jump farther and has a much better close up weapons load out than the other two.

As for my favorite of the three of these. That's a toughy. I'm partial to the Griffin more than the Phoenix Hawk for one reason. I have yet to beat a Griffin while piloting a Phoenix Hawk but have beaten several Phoenix Hawks with Griffins. As for the Shadow Hawk. I tend to avoid them unless I'm in one of those moods. Though I have emerged triumphant in a combat over an Ostsol with one. I have time difficult using the Shadow Hawk for one-on-one engagements as I use it more effectively as a support unit.

I really like the PXH best. It's practical for a scout to go 6/9/6, and the weaponry is heavy enough to deal with things it can't run away from. That said, I do respect the Griffin a lot. There's something to be said for beating on people with a PPC and LRM-10.

The Shadow Hawk is schizophrenic. It is tough, but lacks focus. The Griffin outguns it at range, the Phoenix Hawk outguns it close in. Having only three jump jets of five possible is also very odd. To put it in simple terms: I'd rather take a Wolverine and sell the SHD to someone who's desperate for a mech.

Conclusion: the Griffin wins in the open, followed by the PXH. The Phoenix Hawk wins in the city, followed by the GRF. The Shadow Hawk gets sold to a green dispossessed mercenary.

I voted for the SHadow Hawk because of the really really comfy cockpit!

It's capable of so many things, but that also means it lacks focus. It's more of a team player mech than a solo fighter, but it will do good with a good pilot at the controls.it doesn't have as much problems with short range as the Griffin does, and can shoot at longer range than the Phoenix Hawk. It may be slower than the Phoenix Hawk, but not by much (except jumping), but is also has more armor. The Griffin is the more dangerous threat in the open, but in cities, the minimum ranges are a major hindrance.

Well, when I think of an ideal three-way match up, battletech doesn't usually come to mind.

The Shadow Hawk or the Griffin. I've never had much luck with the P-hawk.

PXH should win in the city every time, has the speed, better jump, and better weapons selection, though pilots and init will play a part.

Griffin should have the advantage in the open field, though the PXH could give it a run for it's money if it can close and win init.

The Shadow Hawk is lackluster but a solid Mech...I would give it a fair chance if one played with House AC rules (5s do 7 points of damage and 2s do 3).

Have any of you guys tried out the K variant of the Shadow Hawk, nice sniper Mech.
