The answer is:
"it depends"
If you refer to outside temperature 'Mechs suffer +1 or +2 levels when the temperature is above 40 degrees centigrade, when in desert worlds, for example.
If you mean temperature inside the 'Mech, it depends of what part of the 'Mech you are in, of course the reactor core, or the barrel of a cannon after prolonged firing are going to be very hot
If ammunition explodes at heat level 19, a good rule of thumb would be assuming 1 heat level = 10 degrees C, so ammunition would blow up at around 200 C , wich I think it's the temperature of a lighted match.
Of course, the temperature inside the cockpit is much lower, as long as the life support works,
I wrote an essay on the 'Mech cooling system that examined cockpit temperature, I don't remember now, but basically , given the vast amounts of waste heat produced by the engine, even in a 'Mech that never overheats (such as a 20 tonner) the cockpit is warm enough to be comfortable in T-shirt and shorts.
Suppose a starting temperature of 20 C and assume that each heat level is a rise of 3 degrees in the cockpit, there's a reason why 'Mechwarriors carry a coolant vest.

A half hour at 90 degrees is quite comfortable in a proper sauna.
That requires sitting still and having a few cool beers to drink after showering, though.

90 degrees? As long as it is Fahrenheit. You wouldn't be it making it 1/2 hour at 90 C.
Remember your conversion factors:
C = (F - 32) * 5 / 9
F = 32 + (C * 9 / 5)
The heat scale should be directly relate to the internal temps. Someone with the research on ammo and circuit temperatures could come up with reasonable guess on heat scale to degree conversions.
But a cockpit with working LS would be harder to guage. For simplicity you could say some faction there of but a pilot can always survive in the functional LS cockpit regardless of the mech's heat scale (unless someone knows of a rule that states otherwise).
Also in the cockpit, you are really dealing with two temperatures. The air temp around the pilot and the successful cooling temp of the cooling vest.
The human body will start to develop burns at 120F (dependent on duration and type of exposure) so consider that as well.

That's 90 degrees in a proper sauna, and yes, we use the Celsius here.

Wow, check that out.
So there you have it. 100C air could be endured as long as it is not too dry (and you are able to sweat).

6 heat points is the maximum a mech can gain from water. I figure out what temp. water boils at and divide.......? I know once water boils, I won't get any hotter so there is a canon reference for you.

I just worked out the math:
Boiling an entire depth 2 hex takes 2.6 quadrillion calories.
However, this tells us nothing about how much heat a mech puts out, because 6 heat does not evaporate all 4200 cubic meters of water. It only evaporates the water touching the mech.
We need to know how much water the mech evaporates with 6 points of heat to determine the temperature of 6 points of heat.
It was a good idea, but we don't have enough information to do it.

I don't think it needs to be anything this complicated, espcially since doing so would involve figuring out the average surface area for heat dissipation among all the available mechs, etc etc. Plus, the water doesn't need to come to a boil to be ineffective for heat exchange, it just needs to reach the same temperature as the object seeking to bleed heat.
All in all, I think the "no more than 6 heat dissipated in water" rule was more of a rough guess designed to limit people from using the water hexes as unlimited free heat sinks. I think the best bet for converting the heat scale to temperatures is as I mentioned earlier.

Water can get to temps well above 212°F...do a search on google for "superheated water"...you'll be surprised at how easy it is to get to very high temperatures.

And don't forget to calculate in the air pressure too. Water boils at lower temperatures at higher altitudes. At higher pressures(like in a steam boiler) Water can start to boil at temperatures up to 200-400 degrees. Depends on boiler pressure. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Seems things are getting complicated...
Anyway 6 poimt is given x tinning water.
what about running water?

lets see... the book says that standing in fire gives the Mech 5 heat points... average open fire is how hot? and How long is a turn?
maybe this helps.

Average turn is 10 seconds according to the rules, but the average heat of a fire will be much more complicated.

In this case it's not so much the fire heating the mech, but the fire heating the air and limiting the effectiveness of the heat sinks; their ability to dissipate heat to a cooler substance.

And you have to consider the size of the fire. An open flame is one thing but I don't think that anything smaller than a bonfire is refered as a fire on the mapboard. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
