Howdy. Well, I was watching CNN and FOX a little earlier today, and was kinda confused about all the D-Day coverage going on today - it being the 13th of June. I know for a fact that D-Day was the 6th of June, and am a little curious about the coverage now.
Am I missing something?

I had CNN on earlier and I didn't see any of it...but it's possible they were airing things they had prepared prior to Reagan's death and didn't air because of it.

I think it's a week long remberance. Basically covering it for the entire week. And as Chihawk said with the Regan coverage it was switched around most likley.

Don't know. I watched a documentary on D-Day June 6th, but it's not getting as much coverage here as the fierce fighting that took place on the Karelian Ishtmus at the same time. The USSR tried to break through with a massive assault and almost succeeded.
D-Day is certainly something we Finns should be grateful for. The Western front made Stalin aware of the need for even more men and equipment in order to seize as much of Europe as possible. Thus he saw fit to negotiate peace with us in September 1944.

It's funny how people around the world really view things differently. It's also funny how our "allies" Russia were engaged in much the same expanisonism as the Germans prior to hitler's invasion of Mother Russia.

Here is an interesting twist that might have changed the course of World War II:
Days before the outbreak of hostilities on the Western Front (May 1940), British troop ships were heading to Finland to support the Finnish resistance against Soviet expansionism. Churchill's believed that the non aggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union was going to be disastrous for the rest of Europe and especially Great Britain. The originals were for a division to land in Finland accompanied by squadrons from the BEF. As it was 6,000 men had left ports in England and were due to land a week later when Germany went into action on the Western Front. Instead, the Finland-bound troops were diverted to Narvik to help the Norwegians.
Had the British landed in Finland and taken up positions, there definitely would have been Soviet-British engagements. Thus, these incidents and possible declarations of war would have made sure that the supply line to the Soviet Union would never had existed and the war would have progressed quite differently.
Interesting tidbit.
