The Mercury fufills these two requirements admirably. But now that the Locust is back, the Mercury's use is dubious. It survives by inertia alone, and the fact that it is nice to have stats to go with names when mentioning old Star League 'Mechs. However, the 'Mech itself does nothing that a Locust can't do. And since the Mercury is rare, you are better off trying to find a Locust.

The Mercury was designed to replace the Stingers and Wasps that were about 270 years old by the time the Mercury was unveiled in 2742. The Stinger and Wasp being in production in 2479 and 2471 respectively. The Mercury is only found in the Com Guards ( according to 3050 TRO) and in the 2750 TRO it is stated that the highest concentration of Mercury's to remain post-exodus were 12 in the 8th Recon Battalion of the 3rd RCT also known as the Eridani Light Horse. Also stated is that they lost all 12 during fighting onSendai in 2798.

I object not to the story behind it, only that the 'Mech is a poor clone of the Locust. The story is fine, the story is solid. The 'Mech is solid, if a clone. The art is, IMO, rather ugly.
