I don't know if any of you, have play tested other peoples custom mechs in the TRO, but i have done a few of them, i think it would be great if we could set up a sort of competition (i would be happy to do one in the style of my 100tonner comp)
After looking at a few of them they just seem to be 5 minute jobs of trying to create an uber-mech with as many ppcs and gauss rifles as they can (yes, im guilty of this to)
I have play tested quite a few of these mechs because i think it gives me evidence to back up my ratings.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestinos for a custom comp?

One of the funniest custom competitions I've ever taken part in was the Johnson MechWorks Inc. Invitational Design Challenge. Anyone who happened to be hanging out on Sarna when Kamikaze Johnson handled the competition knows why it was so funny.
Everyone got to enter a mech that had to fit certain design parameters. The KKJ ran tests on them, all culminating in a final battle between the designs scoring highest.

You could always have them run some sort of Gauntlet that tests all facets of the design. This will bring out the weaknesses of any mech. Nothing like seeing an uber-mech get torn apart by something 'wussy' to bring down someone's ego.

All of my older customs that are sitting in my notebooks have been played extensively. Most of my newer ones have been played at least twice. A few designs I have yet to take into battle at all. My friend and I had designed a couple oftechies while playing MechWarrior the RPG. They were Mart and Marv. They also had some piloting abilities. Using some salvage and some not so subtle threats they managed to open a Mech repair facility that had lain dorment for many years. They would buy salvage from merc groups and then they would tinker with it. They would also design and implement custom mods to existing mechs or even design a whole new mech. The designs had to be based off what they had in stock at that time though. Was great fun to design a mech based on the parts you had available. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Well my REN-1 is a solid mech, with good speed armour and weapons.
So is my Kivutar, its like a Daishi mark two really, but both are definatley not uber, both have glaring weaknesses, i won't tell you what though!
Another one of my mechs which should be added soon is the Tempest, based on the battlemaster's chassis but with a crazy weapon loadout, it can be deadly and also worthless. I'll let you guys judge when you see it.
Always fun to have flawed mechs, if someone creates a perfect mech, then we can all pack our games away. Jobs done.
It's like what Noel Gallagher said, 'There is no perfect song, we all try and make it but if it happens, there would be no point in bothering afterwards, how can you beat perfect?'

I don't love to dedicate much time to statistics
but I remember that long time ago me and other fellows we was invited in a mini tournament.
Rules were:60 tons max available,completly
custom.
So someone was playing with 3 x 20 tonner
other with 25 and 35,anybody 60 tons Mechs.
We was using basically light mechs from Solaris,a lot of xl eng and pulse las.
I saw someone for the 1st time using T.S.M.
too.(we was also playng in high gravity)
