I think that there should be more Medium mechs in the TRO.
The newest trend, and i'm guilty of it, is to create massive 100 ton monsters.
However, the reality is, there are far more medium, light and heavy mechs, so why don't the TRO's match that?
Let me know what you think. _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. If fifty-one percent eat a meal tomorrow and forty-nine percent don't, I've done my job." - The Beast (AKA The President), Transmetropolitan

Building a 100-ton monster is a lot more exciting than building a 50-ton workhorse mech. The "rare" 100-tonner can look all exotic among the horde of other 100-tonners.

I think it is a symptom of how easy it is to make those really big and really small mechs. To make a good medium you have to have a clear objective. There is so much you can do with them it makes it hard to nail it down sometimes.

It's a lot easier too make a 'Mech that does everything you want at 100 tons than 50. I don't know about other people, but quite a few of my 'Mechs are meant to use a certain weapon (my Fafnir, for example). It's easiest to do that in a 100 tonner. Besides, who doesn't like an near-invulnerable 'Mech?

Well the only medium mech i have made which has been good has been my Renegade range, they all have specific objectives.
But generally the 100ton Clan badass is the most fun. I sometimes flick onto the Drawing board and throw a 100ton together. Never save it though,
I made a Clan 100tonner with as many machine guns as it could carry. Full armour and speed it still had a few tons left over!

Badass is good, but realistic?
That's why so many of my designs use standard engines. They're cheaper in oth cost and BV. Less vulnerable too.
As for making a good medium, my two cents is that designing one that meets its objectives and does it well is a source of pride. Maybewith the 100 tonners, its just too easy...

Not a lot of my mechs have made it to the TROs because I use a lot of level 3 but the majority of my designs are lights and I have about the same number of mediums and assaults it is the heavy weight class that I do little with.

I agree! My most prized mech is my Renegade, I made a single UberMech which is the Kivutar,
But my Renegade is my pride and joy. I guess thats why i talk alot about it. If you hadn't already noticed.

I like doing field upgrade kits
Just did one for the Hunchback on the TRO.. the challenge is to make as few changes as possible while producing better results.. hopefully.

what stops many people from building a medium or heavy is the fact that they must confine the mech certain crteria a definate perpus ie hk scout line mech
this isnt all bad as within these various types is a certian amount of veriaty and options to explore and to honest a bit more of a challange then fitting 2 ac20`s on a 100tonner

When building a medium mech you don't have to confine it's purpose to one or two purposes. The Vindicator is a good example of this. It is a general purpose mech weighing in at 45 tons. That is a challenge but I think it's worth it to make the attempt. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Especially since vindies are a House Liao mech eh?
Would be interesting to see an upgraded vindie that increased its speed without losing any of its other capabilities (or even enhancing them..) _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. Checck out the VND-4X in the custom area. It has added long range firepower and better short range firepower. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
