								| Does anyone know where the item "cowl" which weighs one ton and provides extra armour for your cockpit came from. And/or what source book it came from? | |

Sounds like an eminently sensible idea.

								| Yes, it's from MechForce UK. It weighs one ton and one crit. You put it in the head of a 'Mech, and it increases your head armor. I think it gives you five extra armor on the head, but I don't remember the exact number.

								| Five points would be enough to keep you from dying automatically from a Gauss rifle head shot; an AC/20 would still get you, but that's the way it should be. _________________

There's one thing that everyone's forgetting:

Under the rules, if a mech has a cowl in place ejection is impossible unless IIRC the mech has the capacity to eject the entire head (like the Hatchetman and the Wolfhound).

								| Here are the rules for the Armored Cowl (Props to Rick Raisley for including them with HMP)
Armored Cowl - Designed and used by MechForce UK, adds additional protection from head hits to a 'Mech. An additional 5 armor points are added to the head. The Cowl is hit rather than the head when a shot which would normally hits the head enters the hex from any side except the front. From the other five sides, damage occurs to the Cowl first, then to the 'Mech. Weighs 1 ton and occupies one crit in the head.

So hits from the front don't do effect it

I gotta stop leading with my chin....

								| Hmmm...
Expose the back, get 5 extra armor to the head, lead with the front risk decapitation shot...

 Tis a puzzlement.

I think it would be more useful if you were going to be an environment where abush was likely and ejection was suicide (I'm thinking inside a city, here).

								| Build the Coward battlemech, that has most of it's armor on the back and lots of rear-mounted guns. Flipping arms too.
