That doesn't really tell me much. Could you give some reason as to what about the book makes it drivel?

No, I honestly don't remember much of it.

I think it had something to do with Solaris...

Plus I don't think you're a Stackpole fan, are you?

...not a fan...

I suppose that's a gentle way to put it.

Stackpole has created nearly all of the major characters and plotlines in Battletech and has contributed massively to Star Wars as well. I am a big fan of his.

I like alot of his books, they have good plotlines. Especially his star wars novels.

I wouldn't put a book down just by the name on the front. What was wrong with it?

I have sort of mixed feelings about Stackpole. He writes well enough (unlike the hell of a Gressman book), and his plots are generally good. His X-Wing books are especially good. His only problems, as far as I'm concerned, are his need to have a universe where there exists more than people can see (mysticism), and Victor Steiner-Davion.

The mysticism is annoying, especially with the invulnerable Morgan Kell. It's not really what BattleTech is about, although it fits very well with Star Wars' Force. But it's not that bad either. The real problem is Victor. I can understand having an impulsive, not-thinking-anything-through type of person early on, since he's young. I won't mention that, raised in a palace by Hanse Davion, he should be old for his age, not young. But he never really matures, and never really develops the mental capacity to understand that his position is more than just him, his friends, and his enemies. Victor never figures it out; ever.

Honestly, I've always thought that the best way to get themselves out of the hole Stackpole wrote them into was with a single gauss round. Oops! Bye-bye, Victor. Welcome back to New Avalon, Princess Yvonne.

On a side note, this is what I do with book reviews. I try to say what I thought about it, and then say what about the book created those impressions.
