Maybe with Autocannons and pulse weapons, but with lasers and PPCs, we're talking about a relatively thin beam of energy.

Are we trying to omplicate the game even further? In theory, any wepon could have a splash-like effect depending on where it hits. Even a laser could hit near a shoulder joint, and with the 'mech moving, it could spray between the arm and the torso. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Just asking a question...trying to see what folks like, and don't like about certain ideas...

I could see splash, but it would have to be Level 3.

Okay how would you suggest it be handled if it was allowed into the game as a level 3 rule per say...

Hmm, let's see. How about the damage is broke into 5 pt groups (or fractions thereof), and rolled for on the hit location table. That's the way it is done for artillery, charging, DFA, and bombs.

The problem there might lead to a PPC hitting the left arm and right leg, which last I checked weren't connected
Didn't someone on Sarna post a system for this a while back? I just tried a search but didn't get any hits that seemed to fit.

it's best to leave this one alone. i can see it now that we pervert the rules to make them look like star fleet battles ( you can do this becuase of this rule but cant do that because of the very same rule ect. ect. yakky, yakky, blah, blah.) if i seem opinitionated it's becuase i stopped smoking.

I think this whole issue would depend on the type of weapon. A Gauss round wouldn't spray all over the place, as it's speed would ensure that it only hit in one location. Autocannons are fairly similar, except there's always minute variations in the trajectory of bullets leading to a bit of a beaten zone on the target, but, still, at the ranges available to fire at in BTech, the beaten zone isn't going to be very large. And for lasers? I always thought that they were just a microsecond pulse, and therefore too quick to spread all over a walking Mech.

A 30 meter hex....... no way.
Ever run a city battle and actual care about misses and stray rounds??? Bogs things down in a quick hurry. Does add reaslism and hte likes but takes away from the fun. Computers are much better at this.
AWAD- abstract damage to buildings it better unless they are targeted.
