------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The CGR-1A1 Charger is a distinctive 'Mech. Its heavy chassis is
well-armored, but virtually unarmed. Its massive power plant moves it at high
speed, but occupies an inordinate amount of space. The reason for these
paradoxes is in the Charger's original production goals. The CGR-1A1 was
intended to be a heavy scout that could enter well-defended areas where it
might have to take damage yet still be able to withdraw at high speed.
Wells Technologies built the Charger in 2665, combining heavy Durallex
armor with Magna light lasers. Though the Mark I lasers are incapable of
damaging anything but infantry and light armored vehicles, the deficiency was
intentional. It is intended to discourage Charger pilots from engaging in
protracted fire-fights, for the Charger's job is to obtain data and do it
quickly.
Although the design was heavily criticized, the fact remains that Wells
Tech built over a thousand Chargers, about 500 of which survive to this day.
One of these is piloted by Fai Modoki of the Renegade Lancers Mercenary
Company.
==Capabilities:==
While the original Charger's popgun laser array is almost laughable, its
Durallex armor was not and provided the 'Mech with enough protection to
survive even direct hits from a Class-20 autocannon. This is why in 3052 as
the Inner Sphere bitterly fought the Clans, Fai Modoki was upgrading his
Battlemech as best as he could afford and started by replacing the ageing
Durallex Heavy armor with the recently produced Durallex Ferro-Fibrous. This
increased the armor protection nearly 10 percent and added a menacing bulk to
the mechs arms and chest. In addition, Modoki removed four of the Magna Mk I
light lasers and replaced them with two Magna Mk II medium lasers, increasing
the overall range by 300 percent and giving a nasty surprise to Stinger and
Wasp pilots used to out ranging Chargers.
Modoki not only replaced the lasers but also added a second surprise in
the form of Federated Commonwealth designed Triple Strength Myomers,
increasing overall ground speeds by 20 percent whenever the mech is run hot.
Modoki can with the flip of a switch and a pull of the trigger match the
ground speeds of most front line scouts, such as the Wasp and Stinger.
However, despite these changes Modoki's Charger Baby Brawler is still
plagued by the short comings of all CGR-1A1s, its armor is not enough to let
it stand up in heavy combat. If Modoki gets too close to the enemy or is
trapped by superior numbers he will be shot to pieces, unable to defend
himself.
Despite its intent as a high-speed recon 'Mech, the Charger's design
failed. However, Modoki has managed to breathe a little life into his mech in
an ingenious way that the original designers might have smiled in pride at.

Is it me or does the baby brawler not generate enough heat to activate its TSM? Can heat sinks be switched off?
Maybe if the weapons were ER versions?

A very nice take on the Charger. The lasers and TSM make make it much more something that I'd use. Nice one.

I might just have to give this 'un a try in my next lance sized battle (whenever I may get the chance).

Hmmm... 9*8=72
A horrible thing to inflict on your opponents.
