One of my favorite methodologies for designing vehicles is to take a certain amount of firepower, and then create a vehicle to support it. For the Imperium, I wanted firepower equal to a 75 ton 'mech, and a vehicle which was considerably better protected than a 'mech of that size could be.
The Imperium does best, as most tanks tend to, when meeting its enemies head-on. Taking into account the mobility of 'mechs and lighter vehicles, I added protection from flanking maneuvers in the form of twin SRM-4s, one mounted on each side. The LRM-5 mounted on the rear is actually facing forward, pointing at an angle over the turret (the LRM-5 therefore has a "dead zone" in its fire arc, and cannot be fired at any height level one target if the target is within 6 hexes of the vehicle. Also, the backblast from missile launch will cause damage to any infantry or unarmored vehicles/structures in the hex immediately behind the vehicle, the equivalent of one Inferno SRM). For point defense there is, of course, the ever-present forward mounted Machine Gun.

I kinda like this tank. It's like a grown-up version of the Manticore. Like any good tank design it has several weapon systems and a good coverage of all range groups. It's a tad slow for my tastes but what 100 ton tank isn't? _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I like it, but I'm not so sure about the medium lasers. I geuss it might be personal preference, but a medium laser which includes three tons of heat sinks doesn't seem as worth it. I'd've used those eight tons for upgrading the LRMs, and maybe the SRMs too. But it's still pretty good; espcially since no 'Mech can carry that much armor.

I've always had a place in my heart for weapons that don't need ammunition. After an extended campaign, or a particularly heated battle, ammo can be at a premium. I wanted a dependable fallback weapon that couldn't run out of ammunition in a long engagement. The Medium Laser seemed perfect. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges.
