This is a hypothetical scenario I've generated: the factions and 'mechs were chosen completely at random, with no regard for the total weight of either side. The battlevalue imbalance was adjusted by increasing the skills of the lower side.

Capellan Confederation Lance

CTF-1X Cataphract 4/5
VND-1R Vindicator 4/5
CLNT-2-3T Clint 4/5
HBK-4P Hunchback (Swayback) 4/5

Total BV=3624

Lothian League Lance

SHD-2H Shadow Hawk 4/5
STK-3F Stalker 2/4
WSP-1A Wasp 3/4
CDA-2A Cicada 3/4

With the exception of the Stalker none of the Lothian 'mechs rank among my favorites while I think the Capellan lance is filled with good 'mechs. The Clint is well-equipped to take down the Wasp before the Wasp can even get it's guns into play. The Swayback carries an extremely battery of medium lasers; in my opinion it's more dangerous than the AC/20 version.

However, a Stalker with an elite pilot put out a lot of damage, and Stalkers are difficult 'mechs to kill.

Mech's don't kill people, people kill people.

I think I've seen enough arguments in these pages about which mech is better.

I did notice that the Lothian pilots have much better pilot rating than their Capellan counterparts. I think that is a more determining factor for victory than what the mech can do or not.

The Lothian 'mechs cannot take as many hits as the Capellan 'mechs can though...

of course, that Stalker is going to hand out a lot of hits.

I'm actually going to use one of these two lances, although the skill rolls may be different, since I'll be fighting a yet to be determined enemy.

a skilled pilot can avoid fire and make his shot's count. having the ability to alpha consistently does not equate to victory

I'd go with the Lothian League here. In my experience, it's more a matter of pilot skill than sheer firepower.

Well, in my opinion and from my experience, guns do matter. If the Liao forces just gang up on that Stalker with single-minded determination, it will go down. And it will be hard-pressed to take more than one enemy with it. Even if it destroys two, assuming that the two are left do not include the Clint, the Capellans should have a field day with the remaining 3 'mechs.

3/4 pilots on that Wasp and Cicada? Frankly, who cares? And that Shadowhawk doesn't tote more firepower than the Clint either....

I Could not have orchestrated the order of battle any better myself. thats EXACTLY what I would do. and that means A CC Victory.
