Just curious, does anyone have a link to a set of the CBT rules for our learning friend Warhammer:3025? He has some interesting ideas but little knowledge of the combat or construction rules.

These are the quick start rules

http://www.classicbattletech.com/cbt_quickstart.html

The full rules aren't on the net that I know of (and if I found them I'd let the CBT folks know )

While the full rules aren't on the net, you can learn quite a bit about the way the game plays by playing Mega Mek. That's what I did. You can learn a lot by watching the way it does things and taking the time to read through the report on every shot, piloting roll, and whatnot. (like the fact that LRMs are done in 5s, for example.) Of course, having real game material is much better, but until that time...

Mega Mek doesn't seem to want to work for me

Something about not being able to find "wjview" or whatnot...

You need a working version of java on your machine.

I know nothing about your system, but it sounds like you need Java.

Try getting it from Sun here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html. You'll be wanting the JRE, not the SDK.

Edit:
Hmmm... Nightmare beat me to it, and with an apparently more user friendly link. That's what you get from typing slowly.

Well Nightmre covered the link, so I'll point out that I'm running an online campaign via MegaMek, you're welcome to join the Yahoo group for it and sit in on a few games.

Here's link to my original post about this:

I still can't get the program to work. "Can't find 'wjview'".

I installed Java, dowloaded Mega Mek V 0.29.1, then the stable versions 2-10, and Mega Mek code-20050130. I extracted them all to the same folder, of course.

i had a similar problem, one thing, i think there are two batch files to start megamek. try the other one.

also, i think you can edit the batch file, and change wjview to java. that might help fix the error.

Well, I don't get the error message, but the game still won't start. Nothing happens.

Join my Yahoo group and download the version there, it has an updated batch file that will more than likely work. As for further diagnostics I'll need:

Your operating system, java version.

Oh, and also, don't extract them all to same folder and don't download the code ones. use the cvs ones (2 files, same release, the code is just code, the cvs is a compiled version that you can execute).

Right. Download the CVS only (unless you want a look at the code), and only one version of it. You'd probably want Stable 10. The stable versions are much less likely to have bugs in them than the snapshots. Then unzip into a new folder. Don't unzip more than one Mega Mek into the same folder - they likely won't work if they're all scrambled together.

And a link to ralgith's Yahoo group, to make life a bit easier: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/hyperpulse_generator/

I go for snapshots.
I like bleeding edge stuff even if it gives me nothing but grief. (the exception is anything owned by M$.)
