VEHICLE CONSTRUCTION REPORT
Vehicle: Streak SRM Carrier
Tech Base: Inner Sphere - Level 2
Chassis Design: Tracked
Vehicle Mass: 100 tons
Engine: 200 Avalon Heavy Fusion
Vehicle Movement:
Cruise Speed: 21.6 km/h
Flank Speed: 32.4 km/h
Armour Type: StarGuard CIV Ferro Fibrous
Armament:
9x Harpoon 6-S SRM 6 - Streak
Manufacturer: Avalon Heavy Vehicles
Location: New Avalon
Communications System: Achernar Electronics HID-21
Targeting & Tracking System: Federated Hunter Mark III
OVERVIEW:
This vehicle, simply called "Streak SRM Carrier," is the first military
offering from a New Avalon company called Avalon Heavy Fusion
Systems, a company known for producing durable and dependable
civilian and military grade fusion reactors. After nearly a century of
stable business, Joshua Fitzgerald, the company's new owner (who
took over from his father in 3066), decided to expand into producing
military equipment. BattleMechs were first considered, but this idea
was set aside due to the inherent complexity of BattleMechs. Instead,
the company set about designing a simple but heavy tracked vehicle.
The Streak SRM Carrier was the result.
CAPABILITITES:
The Streak SRM Carrier is based on the SRM Carrier which has
served throughout the Inner Sphere for centuries. However, the huge
tonnage of nine Streak SRM 6 launchers and their ammunition (almost
the same tonnage as a standard SRM Carrier) necessitated a much
heavier machine. AHFS (the vehicles division is Avalon Heavy
Vehicles) has never done things by halves, so a 100 ton chassis was
chosen from the start. Despite the tank's huge size, only a 200 rate
fusion engine was light enough to accomadate the desired
armament. The small engine makes the Streak SRM Carrier painfully
slow; this and the short range of its weapons mean it is best used in
close terrain, where the enemy can't outrun it. It is also best paired
with a vehicle equipped with significant long-range weapons, such as
the Alacorn.
In order to try to compensate for the Carrier's low speed, it mounts
eighteen tons of ferro-fibrous armor. This gives it more armor protection
than any BattleMech, something few tanks can boast. In addition to its
heavy armor, the Streak SRM Carrier mounts its launchers in a turret.
While this spreads armor thinner, it lets the tank turn its missiles in any
direction. The fusion engine, the efficiency of Streak SRMs, and the
high armor and ammo load mean that the Streak SRM carrier can be
depended upon to deliver devastating close-in fire to any enemy
which enters its reach.
DEPLOYMENT:
Although the Streak SRM Carrier is a rather expensive vehicle
(just over 4 million c-bills), it is much cheaper than a BattleMech of
comparable capabilities, and the AFFS immediately ordered two
platoon's worth for evaluation. The test deployment of the first Streak
SRM Carriers was decided by the nature of the vehicles' construction.
Every single component, from fusion engine and missile launchers to
seats and tracks, is made on New Avalon. Given this, it was almost a
foregone conclusion that the first vehicles would be deployed to the
First Davion Guards RCT. The AFFS is looking to units on the
Capellan or Chaos March borders to deploy the second platoon for
combat trials.

As for the company:
With a 'Mech, usually I can just take a company suitable to my fluff and have them produce the design (if the design is a production model.) But I can't find any good FedSuns vehicle producers, so I had to come up with my own.

That's not a SRM carrier!!!
That's an urban tech...
No carrier has armour that thick!
But it is a good design for what it does. Expensive.. but good.

I'd swear this was a wall, but it mounts waepons...
I'd take some for my units if it wasn't so high tech and limited to city combat.

Overall: 57%
Excellent at its one specific role, but weak at everything else.
The armor load and ammunition capacity help ensure battlefield survivability, but if it's caught in anything but a city, it's almost certainly screwed. It also seems pricey for such a limited-use vehicle. Why buy a 4 million C-Bill tank when you can buy a general-use medium 'mech for the same price?

Wow! Now if I were to run into a lance of these things I wouldn't stick around to see the end results...some how I think they would give as good as they get.

Use a lance of LRM or AC/2 carriers to counter these. hehe _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?
