Here is the first in a (hopeful) series of step-by-step instructions on how to modify standard 'mechs to newer and more powerful variants. Today's lesson is: The COM-2D Commando! Here I will lay down the instructions on how to modify your standard, run-of-the-mill Commando to the COM-2H "Hellstorm" variant!


Step 1: Remove the Coventry SRM-4.
Step 2: Install two Medium Lasers into a pair of the now-dormant SRM-4 tubes. I recommend leaving the other two tubes open, to keep the enemy guessing.
Step 3: Remove the Shannon Six-Shooter SRM-6.
Step 4: Install 6 Small lasers, one into each of the now-vacant SRM-6 tubes.
Step 5: Install an extra two tons of armor.
Note: The 6 Small Lasers can be replaced with 3 Flamers if you prefer.

No room. The SRM-6 took both the free critical slots in the Center Torso. Six small lasers = six critical slots.

Hmm. Let's put those SLasers in the torso anyway, two in each section.

Good Catch. I forgot to note that.

I should also probably note that this variant functions best on ice planets, as well as planets with low atmospheres, because the ambient environments help deal with the excess heat generated by extended weapons fire.
