As the name implies, the Forward Observation Vehicle is designed as a reconnaisance/spotter vehicle. Please note that I believe the FOV will do best when used in Double-Blind games, or employed in some other system that allows units to be pre-deployed/hidden.

                   Specials: tag, prb

OVERVIEW
Designed as a fast, cheap alternative to scout 'mechs, the Forward Observation Vehicle delivers well on both points. The only factor keeping the FOV back from true mass-porduction is the advanced electronics suite the vehicle is equipped with. The vehicle is still being produced at a prodigous rate, however, an estimated 170 per year.

CAPABILITIES
Equipped with an almost-too-large engine, the FOV is capable of incredible land speed, topping out at over 118kph. This is good, as the vehicle is otherwise completely defenseless, lacking any kind of weaponry except for a few automated anti-personnel weapons fitted on the sides of the vehicle.

DEPLOYMENT
Since its inception during the later years of the Star League, the FOV has been deployed to every corner of the Inner Sphere, with the greatest concentrations in the Lyran Commonwealth, Free Worlds League, and Federated Suns.

The rediscovery of TAG and Beagle Probe technology during the late 3040's has allowed the Kallon Industries factory on Nanking to resume production of the cheap, reliable FOV. It is currently for sale on the open market, although the large number of FOVs already in service has kept sales to a merely moderate level.

Question: Why didn't you go V-tol or conventional; fighter for this? It could have gone much faster and wouldn't have to worry about terrain as much.

See for instance Ferret light scout V-tol in 3026 TRO and the Boomerang Spotter Plane in 3025 TRO.

Response: VTOLs need trained pilots. And it's hard to hide a VTOL in shrubbery.

Again, I don't suppose the factor of pilot training is really a part of CBT, but it might matter in Mechwarrior games. Maybe.

Vehicles can get to place that a VTOL would cause to much excitment or oddity about it being there.

There are plenty of modern day FO vehicles out there that it's not an uncommon idea. The canon Pac-Rat and a couple of others work well enough.

Also in one of the MW game or Mechcommander games there was Aerospotter vehicle that was an interesting and annoying addition, well if you were on the receiving end.

I like this idea and it's a balanced vehicle. Now I am waiting for a version with a C3 Slave as well as Angel and Bloodhound Probe. LOL!

Of course they're amphibious. They have to move when the lines move, and sometimes that means moving through a swamp or over a river. It's all about flexability.

True, but it's something you rarely see in this game on vehicles...mainly because it's level 3 and that's optional etc...but for the rest of us it's something that should be a standard at level 2.

All my scout/transport designs are amphibious because, hey: you never know.
