This design was something I threw together out of boredom while waiting for a movie to come on...
Enjoy...
AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout
VALIDATED
Class/Model/Name: Cassanova Fleet Tanker
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3055
Vessel Type: WarShip
Rules: Level 2, Standard design
Rules Set: AeroTech2
Mass: 750,000 tons
K-F Drive System: (Unknown)
Length: 761 meters
Sail Diameter: 1,116 meters
Power Plant: Standard
Safe Thrust: 2
Maximum Thrust: 3
Armor Type: Lamellor Ferro-carbide
Armament:
16 Light NPPC
32 AMS
16 ER Large Laser
40 ER Medium Laser
8 LB 20-X AC
32 Streak SRM 4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Cassanova class Fleet Tanker is designed to accompany Tactical Battle
Groups on patrol, providing fuel for long range operations. With a carrying
capacity of 200,000 tons of fuel, and 15 docking collars to carry supply
dropships the Cassanova fits its intended role quite well. Also having 5,000
tons of normal cargo capacity, 1,000 tons of which is dedicated to fuel system
components, the rest of which can be used for whatever the fleet may need. The
Cassanova also carries a docking bay for up to 5 small craft, normally
personnel shuttles, but as with almost everything else about the Cassanova
class, it is subject to whatever the fleet may need. The Cassanova also
carries a complement of 12 AeroSpace Fighters, which stay back with the
Cassanova and other such support ships as close in protection.
==Battle History:==
No Cassanova has to date been directly involved in a major battle. Those
that were part of Task Force Serpent and Operation Bulldog simple stood off
during the battle, with other support ships and jumpships. In fact, the only
time a Cassanova has fired her Naval PPCs was at a Smoke Jaguar DropShip that
attacked the support ships during a TFS naval engagement. The battering from
the single Light Naval PPC that struck the dodging dropship, plus the fighters
that had been left to guard the support vessels were enough to convince the
captain to shear off. During the TFS naval engagements, Cassanova point
defense and standard weapons were responsible for no less than 18 fighters
that had been sent to engage the support ships, as well as severly damaging
the aforementioned dropship.
==Variants:==
Several variants of the Cassanova have occured. One splits the single
large fuel tank into 2, or 4 smaller tanks. Another splits the single large
tank into 4, 2 of which become water tanks instead of fuel (2 of the 4
Cassanova's that were part of Task Force Serpent were of this configuration,
with the other 2 being 4 tank fuelers). Yet another variation of the Cassanova
drops down to half the fueling capacity to add more normal cargo storage,
however this is a field modification and not an official variant.
==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Cassanova
Ricardo
Jiancarlo
Edmond
Harold
==Deployment==
Deployed almost solely with the new SLDF, a few have still found their way
into the naval forces of the AFFC and Comstar, mostly those constructed prior
to the Inner Sphere offensive against Clan Smoke Jaguar. A single Cassanova is
also owned by the Draconis Combine, purchased for unknown reasons, but
assumably so they could examine it in preparation for creating their own class
of Fleet Carrier.

Now this I like one a lot! I have been working similar ideas.

I'm not too clear on what all those components do, but the mission profile is straightforward and utilitarian, in other words: great! A ship after my own heart! _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Only one, instead, is an orange of DOOM. That orange has a fate to rule over the other oranges with an iron fist. It's not a bad idea at all. But I'd always assumed that the supply ship role would be carried out by a JumpShip carrying cargo Dropships (Mammoths and Behemoths). It's not as well protected, but it is cheaper. And if the general Inner Sphere unwillingness to attack JumpShips is still around in the 3060s (which I understand it to be), then the JumpShip might even be better protected.

While the jumpship might be safe, the dropships it carries would be fair game...thus if one or two are lost then there goes a lot of the fuel, or supplies if it's a supply run, and while it being armored means it can take a couple of hits and still be around later. Though I would expect that most flotilas or squardon COs would send the supply vessels out of harms way as fast they could go if they are threaten etc...

Sort of like putting all your eggs in one basket. A heavily armed and armored basket. As opposed to a series of lightly armed, moderately armored, smaller baskets. Sounds like a calculated tradeoff to me.

WOW!! I didn't expect this kind of great response to something I threw together in under 2 minutes rofl!!! But thanks everyone. Also, the reason there are variantes that split the single huge fuel tank into many many smaller ones is because if the tank is breached you lose ALL the fuel, unless you get it patched assinine quick. Which is almost impossible in combat, and would be really hard even when not in combat since you have to place and inflate a pressure bladder around it to stop the explosive decompression long enough to apply the patch. So for this reason most newer models are quad tank designs, of which the very newest have baffles in the tanks that are designed to slow any rupture enough to be fixed before a significant amount of fuel is lost (these are retractable into the sides of the tank so that they don't hinder fueling transfers).
To respond to whoever commented comparing this to a standard JS, well, barring the warship weapons and armor it is more of a standard JS. Oh, and the compact drive of course. It even reads on scanners as just an overlarge JS, unless a super deep scan is run on it, then they see the compact core, but also see the immense cargo capacity, which most commanders would then realize this is just a freighter.
Also, when jumping into a combat hot zone, or POSSIBLE hot zone, support ships jump at least an hour behind just in case. More if none of the support ships and/or warships have HPGs on board.
But hey thanks again for the nice raves on this, I thought it'd be ridiculed

I always like utilitarian designs. They add certain strengths/weaknesses to make the battlefield more complex and realistic. Of course, that kind of thing is only useful in campaign play, or possibly in speciall written scenarios, but I still like them. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Well, I'm a hard core campaigner (GM side, I love playing all the NPCs, and I have the skill to play both sides of a double blind board w/out "knowing whats on the other side". That skill alone makes me an invaluable campaign GM when all the players play as members of... say a merc unit like my current megamek campaign.
