let us choose which one we would all rather prefer to the other, we have...

THe Piranha, 12 Hvy Mgs, a vicious anti-infantry mech with speeds topping 150, but no JJs.

The Fire Moth (Dasher to you Innersphere), a pair of medium lasers, a srm and a srm 4, with a 20 kph speed faster than the piranha, but half the armor, and also no JJs.

I am a purist so i will stick with the Fire Moth.

No contest. The Dasher is an omnimech, it outclasses the Piranha just by being flexible.

Not that the Piranha is anything to laugh at. 12 MGs, 2 ER medium lasers and an ER small laser. But I can pack the same load on a Dasher if I want. Or just take the D config and kill stuff.

edit: omnimechs can add jump jets as pods, if someone thinks it's worth it. extra points for the Dasher.

Well, I voted the Piranha. I don't know, I always liked that design, and the mini is just so cute.

I have problems with the Firemoth, especially that killing part.... It does not have enough armour. I never thought I'd be nitpicky about such a fast omni, but it's true. Now, I know, with that speed, you will be able to outmaneouvre everything. And the mods will be high (more so if you use the MaxTech table). But, it needs to get hit by only one accidental shot, and it is bound to get into trouble: only the CT will survive a LL. To be fair, the Piranha will also loose a leg to a LL, but at least it's fairly resiliant to ML.

And yes, the Dasher has exactly as much pod space as the Piranha mounts weapons. But we tend to game with standard configs, that should be enough flexibility. And the Piranha is more fun than the Dasher D!

The pihranna Is particularly scary :/ especially if used like its namesake, in swarms.

The 12 machines guns are especially deadly when used with the Solaris 7 rules (the old ones, at least; I haven't seen the new ones yet). The delay of 0 allowed them to be fired 4 times a standard battletech round, with no heat at all. When I first saw the Pirahna, I thought it was designed specifically for this reason, even though it's a Clan mech.

I voted Piranha. Having used both I have had great success with the design. While the Dasher is faster and neither have to worry about heat. The Piranha can reach out with it's ER medium lasers or get close and rip the Dasher a new one. Or a new dozen.

I prefer the Pirhana. While the Firemoth is faster, I'm an armor fanatic. The Firemoth is lighter on armor than I'd prefer, and the Pirhana is fast enough. Besides, it has great weapons. Clan MGs are just awesome in numbers.

I do not know if it is a Clan thing that i prefer Omnimechs to just about anything, but like most of you i like the Piranha. It is a vicious opponent when encountered in a Star, and even deadlier in a Nova.

I think the winner of the match will be the one who doesn't kill himself by driving his 'mech full speed into a tree while looking around for his opponent.

Pirhana, then. Second-line 'Mech pilots don't come from cans. They don't come much dumber than trashborn canister-clanners.

Before you make such comments, maybe you ought to check your spelling first.

yep and i agree the Pirahna IS the light duelling mech of choice in Solaris. Sure the ammo will be gone in a couple of rounds, but with 1 mg dealing 2 dmg, multiple it by 12 then again multiple it by 4 and ya talking baby.
