I'm thinking of creating a module for GURPS to work with BattleTech instead of learning MechWarrior... If I do I'll post it here.

Do you think I should, and if so are you interested in using it?

NOTE: I would make a BURPS Light to be able to use BURPS stuff in a GURPS Light setting.

One of the guys in my group did something similar and sent it into Future Wars and they had it in an issue.

So it's not unherad of and was a lot more fun then the current RPG for BT is. Then again I like MW2 RPG better then the third version.

I would be interested in seeing what you come up with.

I too would be interested in seeing a GURPS conversion. Of course, then I'd have to get GURPS. and (re)learn the system, but no sacrifice is too great for Battletech (and I say we start by sacrificing DorkAge).

Ok, first of all this is why GURPS is the perfect system for said conversion (and LOTS of people have done BT to GURPS conversions before me).

A) GURPS Light is FREE!!! You can pick it up at any gaming store that carries GURPS materiel, OR download it in PDF format from www.sjgames.com (Steve Jackson Games).

B) GURPS supports Alternate Realities and Time Travel campaigns right outta the box (Even Light). So you can take you "Dork Age" and "Jump" to a parallel universe where it never happened... or something along those lines.

C) GURPS is TRUE Role Playing, not just hack and slash.

D) GURPS already includes weapons such as shotguns and semi-automatic hand guns that can be compared to the same weapons in Mechwarrior, to get a base conversion method.

E) GURPS > D&D, Rifts, etc... (At least IMO)

So, there you have it. And I don't intend my conversion for mech combat even if most GURPs BT conversions out there even convert that. I intend it to be used for your life OUTSIDE your mech. For more realistic campaigning and such.

I will convert battle armor and such just in case you have to fight a battle armored person when you're walking around doing normal RPG crud.

One thing to note in GURPS, its as I said, more about true role playing instead of combat. In the scenario that got me hooked on the system, my team of 5 killed ONE person in the entire scenario. And that was a single action, the lady assassin on our team was hauling tail away from stealing this guys briefcase so we could get what was inside when car rips around the corner and the passenger starts getting out and readying a shotgun. She lept at him, slamming the door on his body pinning him against the car, and in the same motion slasher her knife across his throat killing him instantly. At that point the rest of the team comes tearing around the corner in our van with me at the wheel, our medic is waiting in the open side door, grabs her, drags her in, and we gone. End of scenario we win. Oh, FYI, we were a 5 man special forces team in a future setting where the world is governed by corporations, set like 2050 or so. Was fun as hell.

I like the idea. Especially the title. It fits right in with the Steve Jackson games.
