Hi, i'm trying to work out a level one design, 80 tons, called the Butcher. Nothing fancy, just want it to kill things in the most brutal manner possible.
I've posted my prototype below and i hope to get some feedback on how to improve it.
80 tonner
3/5
17 heat sinks
14.5 tons of armour
PPC
LRM-10 (2 tons of ammo)
AC/20 (2 tons of ammo)
3 MLs
Cheers!

I considered something similar as well (though i added 2 medium lasers instead..) but somehow IMHO the AC/20 was scarier.
Anyone else thinks i should go AC/10 instead? Or any other ideas?

I also think it's too slow. Although I couldn't do anything about that while maintaining the same scale of firepower. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. I just dropped a heat sink for a ton of armor. Everything else seemed pretty good, actually. I much pefer the AC/20 to the AC/10. I initially considered dropping a ton of LRM ammo, but decided that more than one ton might come in handy, since it is rather slow.

That was intentional.. the butcher isn't very fast.. its also supposed to have speakers that blare out "Fresh Meat!"

Don't forget that this one (excellent work, Erenon!) mounts one more ton of armour than a Stalker already. Out of TRO: 3025, only the Awesome, Banshee and Atlas carry more, the Battlemaster is equal.
A PPC and LRM-10 is scary enough in those days, and closing will only make anyone's day miserable.
I would keep the HS. It's nice to be able to move and fire all short-range weaponry without overheating. A great luxury in that era!
I think the LRM ammo may be excessive. In that era, most 'mechs will close to some extent, long-range weapons are not that prominent. But I would not use it for armour. If anything, I'd go for another ton of AC ammo.
Thanks for that! It's refreshing to get some 'new' 3025 designs that are actually not just the usual & done thing and are effective at the same time!
So, my opinion: leave it as originally posted by Erenon!

I would keep the AC20, PPC LRM combo. I like that. For keeping with the eras other monsters make sure and put at least one of those M lasers in the rear. A beast that slow will get some back action from brave/stupid lighter mechs. Stick this with an Archer at its side and you have a formidable combo. This Butcher would also be good if you could afford 2 assaults. Imagine an Atlas standing next to this thing. squish squish squish

Thank you all for your feedback.
If no one else offers any suggestions, i'll post the design as is (save for moving one Medium laser to the rear.. sound advice there Oafman) within a day.

I know I am probably in the minority, but I love the med lasers in the back of my Atlas and Archer. I have played too many games where those saved my hide because a stupid little light overran my hilltop LRM position. REally ticks people off when they get behind you in a locust only to get hammered by 4 med lasers.
