TYM-2A Toyoma

Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: none
Jump Capacity: none
Armor: StarSlab 511 Ferro-Fiberous with CASE
Armament:
2 Diverse Optics Sunbeam ER Large Lasers
5 Magna Mk II Medium Lasers
3 Guided Technologies Streak SRM 4s
1 Diverse Optics ER Small Laser
Manufacturer: Gibson Federated BattleMechs
Primary Factory: Gibson
Communications System: Basix 200
Targeting and Tracking System: Garret A99
Overview:
A new variant for the WoB, this variant of the Toyoma is being
designed for closed range combat and should serve along side the
TYM-1A well.
The original Toyoma was a long ranged powerhouse for a
multi-role mech. With a Doombud LRM-20 and 2 Diverse Optics ER large
lasers, the TYM-1A could easily deal a one two punch against smaller
mechs. Coupled with a Imperator Code Red LB-10x autocannon and a trio
of lasers, it was decent in a short range situation as well. However,
the TM-1A speed was average at best but slow when compared to newer
design. The armor however was its biggest flaw for its class. While
acceptable for a mech that would be doing firesupport, the mech weak
armor made it a poor brawler which is not very good considering the
mech was supposed to be a multi-role design.
That is why the TYM-2A was born to rectify this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capabilities:
Most notable feature of the TYM-2A is the loss of the large
left arm mounted Lb-10x and the right torso Doombud LRM-20 rack. In
place of the LB-10x, a single Diverse Optics ER Large laser is moved
to the left arm. In place of the Doombud LRM-20 rack is 3 Guided
Technologies 2nd Generation Streak SRM4s provided by the Free World's
League. Supplied with 2 tons of ammo, the Streak SRM4s are among
the best close ranged weapons due to their unflinching accuracy and
deadly punch.
An addition of another pair of Magna Mark II Medium Lasers were
added to the original trio brings up to 5 medium lasers serve as a
backup to the 3 Streak SRM-4s. And addition of 1 Diverse Optics small
bore ER laser rounds out the weapon array, serving as a last ditch
defence weapon for the pilot.
Although the TYM-2A looks undergunned when compared to the
TYM-1A, it has 2 distinct advantages over the TYM-1A. Firstly Gibson
Federated used a more powerful Vlar 375 rated XL engine which pushes
the 75 tonner into the 86 km/h range, which mean it can be as fast as
some IS medium mechs. Secondly, TYM-1A mounts only 12 tons of standard
armor protection but the TYM-2A mounts 13 tons of Starslab 511
Ferro-Fiberous which gives the TYM-2A the maximum amount of
protection for its class and is a serious advantage for the fast
brawler. The however TYM-2A does not mount the Guardian ECM suite due
to space issues inside the mech. In fact the mech has no empty
slots.
The use of CASE on an XL engine mech might seem stupid to most
but WoB specifically told Gibson Federated that they want this mech
to be salvagable. And considering it cost the Wob 19 million+ C-bills
at 3 million C-bills more than the original, this might sound
acceptable in theory, but in practise, a damaged XL engine is very
hard to repair. Which some wonder if WoB is actually having good
sense for mounting the CASE on both side torsos of the engines and
losing the space and tonnage (if the small laser was removed) for the
Guardian ECM.
In any case, Gibson Federated has to comply because its Word of Blake
that is underwriting the mech production cost.
Deployment:
To date the TYM-2A has only been deployed by the Word of Blake
Militia. House Marik however has longed express interest in the
TYM-1A and its yet to see how Marik would react to the TYM-2A. The
TYM-2A is often paired with its father with the TYM-2A dashing
forward into a melee after dealing some form of long range firepower
to cover its assault while the TYM-1A would stand back and rain
firepower from the distance with its LRM-20 and Large ER lasers.

Note that the original TYM-1A Toyoma use an XL engine as well.
so dont make bad ratings simply by looking at the XL engine.

Has a very nice weapons loadout, it sets it apart from the original Toyama which had rather varient weapons and ranges. This one uses groupings which are very effective. Could be an excellent close range fighter by the looks of it. Armour is Ok speed is average.
XL engine? I never rate a mech just because of it, some designs are much better because of them, i really do see their worth.

problem is, not many custom and tro designs (for IS) make good use of an XL engine, which is why veteran players have a negative thoughts on those especially if the firepower increase or armor protection isnt worth it.
