This is a scenario I've designed based on the battle of Xhosha VII described in the 3025 TRO, under the Blackjack. In this battle Ravannion's Horde attacks and attempts to overwhelm an understrength unit of Draconis March militia consisting mostly of Blackjacks and Locusts on the icy flats of Xhosha. According to the TRO the Blackjacks decimated the numerically superior but lighter force of Wasps and Stingers thrown at them by Ravannion.
For maps I use the two open terrain maps, the city ruins map (no buildings), and the lake are map.
Forces are as follows:
Draconis March Militia
Captain Michael Ubodo 3/4: Blackjack BJ-1
Mechwarrior 4/5 Blackjack BJ-1 x3
Mechwarrior 4/5 Dervish DV-6M
Mechwarrior 4/5 Locust LCT-1V X3
Ravannion's Horde
Mechwarrior 4/5 Wasp WSP-1A x5
Mechwarrior 4/5 Wasp WSP-1K x2
Mechwarrior 4/5 Wasp WSP-1L
Mechwarrior 4/5 Wasp WSP-1D
Mechwarrior 4/5 Stinger STG-3R x3
Victory conditions are simple; the last side with operating 'mechs wins the fight.

I will have to say that the Combine has a serious advantage in wieght. The horde has to rey on its speed or be taken down, there is little cover. however.
Saying that, heat could be a major factor in deciding this battle. I think the blackjacks will be the deciding factor; wether they are used well or not

The Davion forces definitly have a lot more firepower. And Wasps aren't really that much faster than Blackjacks or Dervishes. The Wasps will have to get close with their weapons and the terrian is so open, they will be getting fired on most of the turns.

I ran the scenario against the bot in megamek, playing the DMM, but the bot couldn't really handle horde tactics; the Stingers and Wasps clumped together around the closest bunch of woods, and let the Blackjacks and Dervish ping them to death all day with their AC/2s. I didn't even commit the Locusts to the fight as few of Ravinnion's 'mechs even came within medium laser or SRM range of my medium 'mechs.
Next time I run it I'll take the Horde myself.

Hardware ran a scenario at TotalCon this weekend that was a company of Stingers and Wasps against an Atlas 7K...I was piloting 4 Stingers and 2 Wasps...didn't lose a unit and killed the Atlas.
If you know how to do it killing mechs with 20 tonners is easy.

To properly duplicate Revannions Horde tactics (I am familier with his fluff stories) You should give him two full lances,That would make the weights match about right too.
Oops just looked a little more closely at the post ...missed the x # first time around...Carry on

I just ran the battle from the Horde's point of view, and got torn apart by the Davion 'mechs. I managed to take down their Captain's Blackjack by getting behind it, breaching it's rear torso and setting off it's ammo, but that was the limit of my luck. I quit when I only had five mauled Wasps left.
I'll have to experiment with increasing the Wasps to a tonnage parity with the Davion forces. BV is virtually useless for this sort of thing.

Pick a Davion mech and run or jump 6 light around it...have all of them kick.
Rinse and repeat until destroyed.
Next target.

Now that's just blatant manipulation of the rules. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Okay if you use the fluff of icy plains, to me this means snow and ice and all the fun of moving around in the winter.
So the speed advantage of the Horde is cut down a lot if you use the weather rules for ice and other winter effects. Thus this would give the Combine a chance to rip in to the Horde and do some damage before they can respond. Now with the basic skills and any of the weather rules being used I would expect to see the lights moving slow as to avoid falls and skids thus keeping things around 4 for a walk to avoid any pitfalls.
If this is played with out the weather being a factor then the lights have a lot of advantages and I really don't see the Blackjacks taking them down without a lucky hit.

No it's not.
Kicks localize the damage done to the legs, meaning you'll be able to knock the mech over by removing the armor and getting crits.
The fact the Atlas had to make pilot checks for every kick was just a bonus.

But the Davion mechs will probably be able to get over in time to kick the Wasps. The defenders will probably stay in jumping range of eachother.

Yes it is. It's the same thing as if I'd loaded up a 20-tonner with machine gun ammo, then charged the enemy and self-destructed; or loaded it with Pulse Lasers and a Targeting Computer. It's manipulation of the rules to give an almost unfair advantage.

I don't see how mass kicking is against the spirit of the rules. Its one of the best ways for jumping lights to do damage.

I tried that...when you're engaging multiple targets, the others tear into the rear of your Stingers and Wasps while you're clustered around one or the other. So while you're clustered around one Blackjack, the others are tearing you up. The math doesn't quite work out in the Stinger's favor.
It does work quite nicely around a single assault 'mech though...I ran a similar scenario with a Highlander vs. a bunch of 20 and 25 tonners....got the same result you did with your Atlas.
