My vote: Project Omega. Three words: Rotary Gauss Rifle. Another three words: Dreadnaught-Class 'Mechs.

Can someone refresh my memory. What is Project Omega?

wizkid's clix.

In fact wizkid is already bad news... as for the Dreadnought Class Omega superheavy mechs, i thought they would be cool for a level III design. We can make SH tanks why not mechs ?

I'm not sure. I'll have to take another look at the clicky and what it entails; I don't quite remember.

I like the sound of that, actually. An 18-20 ton GR, which burns ammo by the ton. "Would you like one, two, four, or six lumps?"

Maybe to balance it, it does 8 points of damage has the range of a Heavy Gauss...

By wizkid's clix, are you talking about all of them or just the mech clix? Personally, I love their heroclix game using DC and Marvel characters but their Battletech version just doesn't do the series any justice. I bought a pack once and the mech I got had a crane for an arm... I was scared for life by that lol.

I'm talking about the Mechwarrior: Dark Age game, not "clix" games in general.

P.S. An industrialmech in your first pack? Ouch. My first 'mech was a "One-Eyed Jack" I got from PCGamer.

I think Project Omega would have been easier to ignore, so I vote Click-Tech!

Several reasons:

1) Project Omega would not have been a total change in the basic fabric of the universe. It would have been the reintroduction of Clan Wolverine, a 2nd Clan Invasion, if you will. And it would've probably been aimed at the Clans, so all the better for the other houses of the Inner Sphere!

2) Well, because in the universe, it would have been a controlled force, that would have applied to Battletech, too. Meaning, only one faction would have fielded these monstrous designs.

3) Rotary Gauss Rifle. Well, even back in the old Mechwarrior Companion they had man-held gauss rifles. Mini ones, right? I think this rotary gauss rifle would have been a low-heat, fast rate-of-fire weapon with medium range and low-medium damage. NOT with the singular killing power of a standard Gauss Rifle!

Of course it could be argued that the death of FASA and the almost death of BT reinvigorated the game to the point of it being as big again, as in the best days. But that is pure speculation. I'm just thinking about universe terms here.

And the appearance of a new Clan Wolverine would not have been such a major, and potentially upsetting, occurance, which the Jihad will doubtlessly be.

And don't forget number four.

Anything that gives the clanners a humiliating kick in the groin is good.

I also say clicky mechs. As for PO, it was going to be released, then FASA went under, then WizKids released it as an april fools joke.

Project Omega was going to be released? I didn't know that...

I vote the Clickey-tech, they're harder to ignore like others have said.

Yup, tis true. As ralgith has said here, and I have in the other thread, ca half a year prior to FASA's closing, my retailer told me that they were working on a new ed that would be called Omega. Then the rumours about the Dreadnought-mechs started.....

And hey? I didn't mind. Seeing as I was washing my hands of most things lvl2 anyway (apart from my episodic Clan stints), it wouldn't have mattered.

But to realise that basically everything we knew was going to be swept away, well, that was a bitter pill to swallow.

I mean, even the SJ-Annihilation was a bad blow to many fans, including me. Before that, the only thing that had died almost completely were some Periphery realms (I loved Vasalek, Grimm and Ryan!!!!) and the FRR - which we had been able to read about only just before the Clans then swallowed it again. So there wasn't much of a difference.

But this.....

No, just to state it for the umpteenth time: it would have been easier to cope with yet another faction coming in and kicking butt - even if they were driving 200-tonners!!

I have to agree. The clicky tech was a bad idea from the beginning. Dont like the game play, the minis, or the story. I can ignore the 200 ton mechs. (although having the Wolverine clan make a comeback is a little odd, they were wiped out the throughness of the clans wouldnt have let them survive, I cant buy that part). yet I ahve to agree, If there are 200 ton tanks why not 200 ton mechs.

Oh, no, it has always been part of the fluff of the BT universe, that a good portion of Clan Wolverine had survived (say, a third?).

Off the top of my head, I know of two references (though don't know where they were printed - one of the Sourcebooks: Invading Clans, hey, even the early Housebooks, Warden Clans?)

- A patrol of Clan Ghostbear spotted a convoy of escaping Wolverines, but didn't tell Clan Wolf about it, because they were begrudging them the honor of annihilating the Wolverines themselves.

- The Minnesota Tribe raiding Kuritan space in the 29th century was this very convoy hitting the IS again and passing through it. Just taking some supplies on the way. A Wolverine Lancelot was destroyed - it had the outline of Minnesota as its coat of arms.

I'm sure there were others. This is just what I remembered right now, so anyone else, please pitch in and/or correct me!
