My vote goes to the Summoner. You just gotta love it.

The Summoner is not only the best 3050 Clan Heavy; not only the best 3050 Clan machine; not only the best ever Clan omnimech; not only the best ever Clan 'mech; not only the best ever 'mech - it is THE best thing out of BT!!!!!!

Of course, there are about 10 designs from 3025 that I love basically as much, and I tend to only play 3025 these days, anyway.

But it was the image of the battered Summoner in the old BT Compendium that sucked me into this game straight away!

Oh yeah, and I genuinely think that it is the best 'mech of the above. Despite having the smallest pod space and not because it jumps. But because of the beautiful balance of mobility, heat efficiency and huge striking power, with only a few weapons - which really make their punches felt.

It is also most consistent in having great variants all across the board.

Now, because these four designs are a group of some of the most important designs in all of lvl2 play, I will quickly give a synopsis of the others, in order of my liking:

2nd best is the Mad Dog. Mainly on the strenght of its configurations. Yeah, the Prime and C are well known and often used. So is the B, which I don't really like. It is one of those 'mechs for beginners, with a bit of everything. But I don't know.... Now, bear with me: If you play with BV, the A configuration is the single best investment you can make. Because it is one of those rare birds, especially amongst the clans, in that it has two perfectly independent range groupings which are heat efficient by themselves, but overheatl hellishly when fired together. It is strong at range, it is absolutely brutal in close combat, and it tricks the BV system into thinking it is a POS that isn't worth much more than 1500!

3rd place: the Hellbringer. Because it is so disdained by everyone. It performs well because the tendency is there to ignore it. Always go for the PRIME, which sucks in BV games. And most other configs suck full stop. But for fun, multi-unit games, run the PRIME and in my experience, you should be able to drop at least one foe before your enemy starts to even notice you.

4th place: the Timberwolf. For the exact reason why I prefer the Hellbringer. Everyone loves it. Everyone takes it seriously. Everyone will want to eliminate it ASAP.

I also don't like most of its configurations: the PRIME is a heat box until its ammo is gone, at which time it becomes somewhat undergunned. The B is just such a "WTF?!" machine. The dictionary definition of inefficiency. And a lot of people like the D "with the rear facing SSRMs turned to the front". Am afraid it doesn't work like that. Ok, obviously the A is a beast. And the C seems worth it, compared to the other configurations.

Just to put it into context: sure, the Timberwolf rocks! But it is less original, fun and cool to field it than the other 3 designs.

This is a hard one for me... two of my favorite mechs are the Summoner and Timber Wolf. The Timber Wolf is certainly the more optimized, or min-maxed, or whatever you want to call it. The Prime maybe has too many weapons, but it doesn't have a bad config, and the movement curve was sick compared to what we saw for heavies in 3025. Certainly its image is one of the symbols of Battletech, and one of my first mech loves, as it probably was for a bunch of players.

The Summoner requires more skill to use, and frequent use of the jump jets. It also is a very cool looking image. The armor can be a problem but thats just part of using a Summoner. It can pack a punch despite its pod space. Another one of my favorites.

However, I think I will go with the obvious choice and say the Timber Wolf. A bit too good, maybe, but I just can't say no to a TW.

Is this going to be a returning feature with the other 3050 clan mechs?

Timber Wolf.

Why?

When i was about 14 i saw the intro to Mechcommander, the second it came into view. That was it,

My Battletech obsession extended from there!

p.s anyone else try and make it their objective in that game to capture the Mad Cat on the third level? I loved trying that!

Mad Dog, just because that's what I used to drive in the Mechwarrior game. The speed was good, the pod space was good and the lower tonnage netted me more honor.

The truly best clan heavy on is the one that got blasted in the intro.

Wow. You just made four posts in a row that basically equated to "the only good Clanner is a dead Clanner". A little bloodthristy, are we?

Summoner.. Like the balance.. it's not the most heavily armed, armoured or fastest. But it is still well-armed, armoured and mobile.

Hope i made sense

I chose Vulture (Mad Dog). Yet again, I like the look of the machine. I also like the various weapons loadouts. I like missle weapons, and about every variant packs at least one. The armor is kinda weak for a heavy mech but the weapons pods are big.

I like the Timber Wolf....it looks cool, has great armor protection, good speed, and lots of pod space, even with several permanently mounted heat sinks. Several of the configurations are just killer, esp. the A and C configs.

Yes, I know. Everyone's supposed to like the Timber Wolf, and some people dislike it because it's commonly liked. But I've always loved it. Yes, it's min-maxed, as Moonlapse puts it. But I like 'Mechs like that. Yes, most of its configurations leave something to be desired. But the good ones are pretty good. I love the way it looks, too.
