------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
In the years following the Ghost Bear and Draconis Combine war, new units were
badly needed to fill the ranks of the battle torn front line units. Those
Support units among these front line units had favored worse then some and
needed replacing quickly. This was no truer then among the ranks of the
O-Bakemono. It was with coincidence that the Star League council approved at
the same time an increase in the SLDF ranks, and the call for new designs went
forth. Designers at Luthien Armor Works seized upon the opportunity and began
designing a new generation Artillery Support 'Mech which ROM agents have begun
calling Golem.

==Capabilities:==
The Golem builds upon the success of such 'mechs as the Archer and
Catapult in a larger more powerful chassis. Massing an impressive 90 tons,
the Golem is one of the largest support 'mechs constructed. Capable of speeds
up to 54kph and covered with an impressive 17.5 tons of Starslab 4 armor
platting; the Golem is capable of keeping up with most lance mates while
protecting the vulnerable Extra-Light fusion engine that sits at its core.
Despite the risk of the Extra-Light engine, designers proceeded with its use
when it was deemed that the risk was worth the benefits.
The benefits gained were in the raw fire power that was packed on to the
Golem. Befitting to its roll, the Golem's primary weapons a twin LRM 20 racks
which allow the 'Mech to lay down a barrage of missiles that cause any sain
Mechwarrior to pause and consider his options. In addition, each launcher is
provided with an ample 2 ton supply of ammunition giving each launcher 2
minutes of continues fire. Designers further increased the lethality of the
twin LRM 20s by adding Artemis IV FCSs, which increases the average number of
missiles that hit per salvo. As if this was unsatisfactory for a support
mech, the designers at Luthien added opposite the LRM launchers an Arrow IV
Missile Artillery launcher. This massive weapon gives the Golem the ability
to damage enemy units well outside the range of other support units or give
aid to nearby units in need of artillery support. This launcher is supplied
with a liberal 3 tons of ammunition and can thus offer artillery fire support
for an impressive 2 and ½ minutes.
All of this fire power while good at range and in supporting fashions is
inadequate at short ranges, which is a failing of almost all support 'mechs.
Aware of this, the designers included five medium lasers, three forward and
two aft, that give the Golem some ability to fight up close. While these
weapons are by far not a significant threat to heavier units, they are
sufficient to deter lighter 'mechs looking for easy prey to harass.
The only true back draws of the design are its use of an Extra-Light
engine and its heavy dependence of ammunition. Should the Golem suffer heavy
damage in combat or run out of ammunition there pilots are advised to retreat
to safe zones and await repairs and reloads, which is do to the presence of 9
tons of high explosives on a chassis with an expensive extra-light fusion and
no CASE.
The prototype, which was presented to both the DCMS and SLDF contractors
who were impressed, showed great promise in its test trials. The contractors
of both groups suggested that several runs of the design be purchased for use.
However, it will take some time before the legislators on the Star League
council will approve the acquisition, if they do at all; do to of rumors of
greasing by the First Lord. In the meantime, DCMS forces should be receiving
there production runs early next year.

There's just one thing I don't like: that XL engine. Even with 17 tons of armor, that XL engine is just asking to be critted by the long-ranged Clan machines this 'mech is sure to come up against.

Possible solution: increase the 'mechs tonnage by 5 tons, and remove one of the Medium Lasers, and a ton of Arrow IV ammo.

Please note: while I myself have used XL engines in the past, I have come to be wary of them, given my recent experiences in MegaMek. The only time I now believe an XL engine is worth the risk, is when it allows a vehicle to move MUCH faster than it could otherwise, such as in the LCT-5M Locust. Plus they're frikking expensive.

to me, it looses to much to drop the XL. Your ammo is sub-par across the board. you removed its ability to fire all its support weapons with no heat.

While i dislike XLs very much, i deemed it a nessecary evil to do what i wanted. If i could get the weapons in LA space, i would build it there with a Light engine. However, LA dosen't produce Arrow IV artillery.

As for posting a counter design, i have no prob with that as i usually do the same.

btw, side note.... i'm tired of 100 ton uber assults. there are to many out there. i chose 90 tons as that is not often used by ppl. another reason i did what i did.

I've looked over the options and the 90 ton XL choice is better. The XL is a nessecary evil. Remember its not oging to see a lot of front line use. So its armour and XL are less of an issue.

The secondary weapons need to be there for that last push you need to crack the line when the ARrow IV runs out of ammo. You can successfully use this mech to anchor a company and push through an opposing company/two companies. Depending on how much accuracy you had with the arrows.

By golly, you're right.

I like it a lot. I like the way you can continue to soften up opposing forces as they get closerStart with the Arrow IV, then switch to the LRM-20's as they close, then to the medium lasers as they try to silence the artillery barrage.

Now it's jump-capable (to help in assuming optimal firing positions), and has a C3 slave. So, as its lancemates close, the long-range fire from this 'mech gets even more accurate, while it stays way back in the rear.

hmmmm, i dunno if the JJ are worth the weight increase and armor/ammo reduction. 10 shot just isn't enough for an Arrow IV.

My suggestion for your design, drop the Artemis IV and add 1t ammo for arrow and 1t armor.

btw, my version can quickly be converted for C3. Drop ML in head for C3 Slave. walla. i even thought of that last night.
