This is not a design submission, that's why I'm posting here. Downloading ralgith's version of Megamek, I have noticed a few MFUK designs that had until then only been at the back of my head. Most noticably the Woodsman.

Now, if you remember, this was introduced in the fluff only as a base for the Naga and a precursor to the Gargoyle. Which would make it an extremely early design, its closeness to two Wolf designs would even let me venture to say this was possibly the first omnimech, as designed by the Coyotes.

Is there any fluff in its files on HMP?

As to the design itself, I kinda like it, but am still undecided on how effective it is.

It is simply a Naga without the Arrow IV. Meaning that it is 80 tons, moves 5/8 with a 400 XL engine, uses endo steel but only mounts 9 tons of standard armour. Hellbringer II anyone? It does have 12 integral DHS and 31.5 tons of pod space, 10 more than the Gargoyle.

Even better, that space is used really, really well, which is why I like it.

The Prime mimics the Gargoyle PRIME, though with a much greater punch: The two LB-X AC5 become one UAC10 and one LB-10X with two tons ammo each, the 2 SRM6 become one LRM20 with 2 tons ammo, oh, and the ERSL remains in place.

The A mimics the Executioner Prime: it also packs two ERLL and a hand on its right arm. The left arm carries an LB-20X instead of a gauss, supplied with three tons of ammo. A SSRM6, one ERSL and 4 extra DHS round off the variant.

And the B manages to get a Night Gyr D out of what is essentially a Gargoyle chassis: it mounts a whopping 4 LRM20s, with 6 tons of ammo, along with NARC (2 tons) and an AMS.

It is fragile as all hell, just like the Hellbringer. Unlike that heavy 'mech, it manages to carry both a horrendous punch and stay cool doing it.

What do you think? Is it worth all those guns to be so fragile?

At any rate, it is a colourful design. I think it is one of MFUK's better achievement, it really is a convincing projection of the basis of the Naga and could well be a progenitor of the Gargoyle and even Executioner.

There is no fluff for the Woodsman in HMPro...

Thanks for that, chihawk.

So, we are left on our own with what we know: that the Woodsman is a precursor to the Gargoyle and a base for the Naga.

To which that MFUK design above fits very nicely. I tried these out on MegaMek today, a binary against a binary of Gargoyles, with 3/4 pilots, equal BV (well, the Gargoyles had a couple of hundred more - used mostly A variants). The bot broke Zellbrigen first, silly fool (can one set that to honour levels). And after it went after my ejected pilots, I also used physical attacks.

Well, once I'd cleared the field, there were 5 Woodsmen still standing. The verdict is that they are extremely fragile, but make up for that in their output. I actually prefer the Prime and A variants.

The Prime builds up no heat, and has great punch. Best thing is: it costs less than 1700 points in BV, making it a huge bargain.

The A is just plain evil. Though it happened to me several times that the right arm was blown off, leaving that config without ranged weaponry.

The B is the least great variant, because it really feels the lack of ammo more than the others and it costs by far the most BV: almost 2200 points. Which still isn't as much as the Loki Prime, but you get the drift.

So yeah, this is really the penultimate egg-shell hammer-wielder. Do you have any opinions? Anyone try it out on MegaMek, or even on a board?
